What's Happening in PBS?
Week of 1/5-1/9
Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a great winter break and enjoyed their time with family and friends.
For our week back, we have some exciting things planned to dive right back into the mystery of Anna Garcia.
First off, we will discuss the final. I know the final did not effect their overall Fall Semester grade, but I have entered the scores into the gradebook. If the score did not change the overall grade (i.e. from a "A" to a "A-") the score stayed in the gradebook. If the score would have dropped their overall score, I "exempted" the final. You will see a score, but it doesn't count towards their grade. Then we will watch some video clips of kids who have been diagnosed with diabetes and what their life is like. We will do a little research on hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
Tuesday we will recieve some scenarios from Anna's life when her blood sugar varied from the norm and the symptoms she encountered. We will also have a class discussion over the basics of diffusion and osmosis from what they have learned previously in their biology classes.
Wednesday we will be running a lab over osmosis and how it represented Anna's cells from each of the scenarios we cover on tuesday and tie it all together.
Thursday we will interpret the lab results and finish up the conclusion questions. The report will be due by Friday night at midnight.
We will finish out the week on Friday with researching various complications of diabetes and how they effect the different body systems. The kids will create a diagram of the body and how all the complications could play a role.
That's it for the week! Let me know if you have any questions,
Mrs. Weiss
