Reading Class Information
Hello, I am very excited to be teaching your child this school year. I have been teaching reading for many years now and not only is it my profession, it is also my passion. My curriculum will be promoting the very best of children's literature to your child with activities designed to help student's enjoy the stories even more. I will be doing my very best to get (or keep) your children "hooked on reading" by recommending specific reading materials to each individual and also allowing them freedom to make book choices and hopefully they will introduce me to new literature too. I pride myself on having an extensive classroom library and have read many of the books myself so that I can pass the right book along to your child. At the beginning of the year each child will set a goal to read 30 books this year. Yes, 30 books! You will be surprised but many of my students will read more than 30. Remember, this is a goal not a grade! There will NOT be a reading log and homework will be assigned sparingly. However, I do hope by conference time you can tell me that you notice your child reading more at home. Of course as we embark on new reading experiences we will be covering the standards set by the state of Ohio as we prepare for the OAA tests at the end of the year. As always parent support is vital to classroom success so please ask your child often about the book they are currently reading as well as share your own reading experiences as well. I am really looking forward to this year and establishing our 6th grade reading community at Wright Brothers.
