CSD Superintendent Update
WEEK #11, Cambrian School District, 10.29.21
Dear Cambrian Community,
As we approach the end of October, I hope you all enjoy the autumn activities each of your school sites offers. I was thrilled to see wonderful photos of Sartorette’s annual pumpkin parade for kindergarten and first grade last week-- adorable!
Please take a moment to review the valuable tools and information below. We want to equip you to help make your student successful.
VACCINATIONS
Please remember that getting vaccinated and following the recommended protocols to reduce community transmission of COVID-19 is the best way to protect the health and safety of the entire family. Find a testing site: www.sccfreetest.org.
VOLUNTEERS
We’re excited to welcome volunteers back to our schools. Vaccinated volunteers or those who can produce a current negative COVID-19 test may volunteer for positions requested by our school sites. Over-the-counter antigen tests will not be accepted, but as a reminder, we offer testing Wednesdays at the District Office. Here is how it works:
Volunteer may access the online form here: Cambrian School District Volunteer Vaccination Certification
Volunteer completes the form and attaches vaccination record/card if applicable
Volunteer submits the completed form to the school site/principal from a drop-down menu (if you do not have a specific site, please select ‘any’). The drop-down menu appears in the form once the volunteer is ready to submit
School site/principal signs and completes the form
School site/district reviews completed form and confirms with volunteer
Unvaccinated volunteers: If you take a COVID test at the District Office during our regular Wednesday testing events, we will be able to pull up your results. If you test elsewhere, please bring your negative test result with you on the day you volunteer.
NO SCHOOL
As a reminder, there is no school for our students Monday, November 1, as our teachers participate in a professional development day. We hope everyone enjoys a fun (and safe!) Halloween.
Thank you again for your support of our students, staff and school communities. We are a united team, all working collectively to ensure the most robust, engaging education possible!
Have a great day!
Vaccine for 5 to 11 Year-Olds
The FDA recently approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use for 5 to 11-year-olds. All students are encouraged to receive both doses of the vaccine as soon as possible to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and our community.
COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, and play a crucial role in limiting the spread of the virus and minimizing severe disease. In addition to universal masking and regular testing, vaccines are our strongest defense against the COVID-19 and variants circulating in the community.
Information on the Vaccine for 5-to-11 Year Olds
Children will receive two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, given 3 weeks apart. The vaccine for children 5-to-11 years old is a third of the dose given to adults. Like other routine vaccines, your child may get a sore arm, fever, headaches, or fatigue after getting vaccinated. These are signs the vaccine is working.
Scheduling a Vaccine for Your Student
With the next age group becoming eligible for the vaccine, we want to inform you of local opportunities for students to become immunized. We have included a flyer with nearby vaccination clinics to this email.
More information on the COVID-19 vaccine and how to schedule an appointment can be found on the Santa Clara County Public Health Department’s website.

COVID-19 Asymptomatic Screening
We are partnering with California’s Valencia Branch Laboratory and Color (their registration system) to bring no cost, asymptomatic COVID-19 screening testing to our students and staff. Your child may also get COVID-19 asymptomatic testing from your healthcare provider or from the Free Santa Clara County COVID-19 Testing Sites.
For the month of October, our testing program will be on Wednesdays, from 1-3:00 PM at the Cambrian School District Office. As we determine the interest in screening testing, we will adjust our schedule. This is one tool in supporting a safe return to school.
If you are interested in having your child participate in the COVID-19 Asymptomatic screening program, please follow the steps below. You must register at least 24 hours before the test.
If you have already registered for a previous testing date at the District Office, you do not need to register again.
Step 1 - Registration
At least 24 hours prior to the test, use this Cambrian Student Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing link or scan the QR code to register. You only need to register one time.

Booster Vaccinations
In case you haven’t heard, along with COVID-19 Pfizer booster vaccinations, the County of Santa Clara will now administer booster shots to those who received the Johnson & Johnson or Moderna vaccine and are eligible under CDC guidelines. County clinics are taking appointments at www.sccFreeVax.org and everyone eligible is encouraged to receive a booster shot.
People who received their initial series with any of the three COVID-19 vaccines (Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna) may now be eligible for a booster. Boosters are recommended for:
Everyone 18 and older who received their Johnson & Johnson shot 2 or more months ago.
Most people who received their Pfizer or Moderna shot 6 or more months ago:
Those who are 65+, 18 and older living in a long term care facility, or are 50+ with an underlying condition, are strongly urged to get their booster as soon as possible.
Those who are 18 and older and have an underlying medical condition, or work in a setting that may increase their risk of exposure, may also consider getting a booster
Boosters provide important additional protection because we now understand that the protection from the initial vaccine series may decrease over time, and a booster shot is highly effective in preventing serious hospitalization and death. Find a variety of drop-in or appointment-based sites for your booster at www.sccFreeVax.org
