THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT
The days are growing darker and colder. In this second week of Advent, we give thanks for two candles that push back the darkness and remind us that the Light of the world is coming.
What's Happening in 5th Grade
Our 5th Graders are truly shining stars this year! Our smiles light up the room as we await the Light of Christ this Advent season. We are learning and growing.
We love memorizing and illustrating our poems every month. This month we are writing our OWN poems and doing a great job! We are becoming excellent writers as we progress with our Jane Schaffer program and My Access on line. We are so excited to be able to write to our pen pals in Africa again this year.
We do so many wonderful things on our iPads. We love Freckle and Stack the States just to mention a few. We have our English textbook on line, preparing us for when we have more books to access in Jr. High. We are excited about engaging in Health class on our iPads as well. We are learning about body systems in Science, and exploring America in Social Studies. We are excited about our faith as we delve into the Sacraments. Some of us are becoming expert engineers as we use our game shelf in the classroom.
We are excellent mathematicians! We will know our facts as fast as we know our names!
Here is what fifth graders named as some of their favorite things: "being read to after lunch, writing, reading, study guides, Math, Religion, and fun events!" Our fifth graders are truly phenomenal!

Santa's Workshop!!!
On December 5, 6 & 7 students will be visiting Santa's Workshop (In-School Holiday Shopping) for an opportunity to purchase little presents for their family and friends. The shop will be set up in the Parish Center. The children will shop during their assigned class time. We will also be open after school until 4:00 PM. Gift items range from $1.00 - $5.00. It is our hope that through this program our children will learn about handling money and receive the joy of being able to select a special gift for a loved one. ~PTO

Winter Festival Open House
We are busy at work getting everything ready for the Winter Festival Open House and really need your help. Below, you will see the link to the sign-up for adults to help. They do not need to be CMG trained. We are hoping to have two people from each classroom sign up for one slot the night of the event. This can be yourself, other parents, or even extended family. They just need to be grown-ups.
We know everyone wants to be with their families and have made the slots 45 minutes so that it can be fun for everyone.
Of course for set up the morning of, it is all hands on deck and we will take all the help we can get 😊 ~PTO

Message From Our Counselor
Hi there,
I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but I facilitated Safe Touch classes during the month of November. I was so happy to be able to spend some additional time with your children and to share this very important information with them. First of all, your students are amazing. I’m sure you already know that. They had wonderful questions, incredible insights, and were very interested in learning about boundaries and safety.
However, the dialogue around Safe Touch needs to be on regular rotation in your home with your children. I cannot emphasize how incredibly important it is for children to have a continued conversation with parents and/or guardians. This conversation will always provide a safe space for them to share their thoughts with the ones they trust most.
So, I thought I’d share a few of the main points with you just in case you’d like to revisit this with your child.
Private body parts – those body parts covered by a bathing suit.
Rules – rules are much like boundaries and are a prescribed guide for conduct or action. We discussed the concept that children have “rights” to determine the rules about their bodies being respected and safe.
Boundaries – the limits that define one person as separate from another or from others. We discussed physical boundaries and emotional boundaries (boundaries we can’t see). We call invisible boundaries our personal space.
Saying “No” – to say “no” means to refuse, deny, reject, or express disapproval. This word is used to set a boundary. I let them know it’s ok to say “no” to an adult if they make the feel scared or uncomfortable.
Safe friends and adults – safe people won’t hurt you without a good reason and won’t intentionally confuse you. They listen to and consistently respect boundaries, and follow rules.
Unsafe friends and unsafe adults – unsafe friends and unsafe adults put a child at risk for emotional, spiritual, and physical harm. These are people who place a child in danger for their own purposes without concern for the welfare of the child. They do not respect boundaries.
Secret- something kept hidden, never told or unexplained. Secrets exclude others and have potential to harm, sometimes causing the person involved to feel frightened or uncomfortable, fearful, or sad.
Surprise – surprises are typically happy. They cause feelings of happiness and joy. They are exciting, and temporary – meaning they will be revealed within a specific timeframe. Surprises are inclusive and meant to be shared with others.
These are just some of the points we discussed and there so many other ways you can discuss this information on a regular basis. If you need help unpacking any of this information, or you’d like to further discuss Safe Touch with me, please feel free to contact me. We’ll schedule an individual appointment. Most importantly, I want you to know I’m here if you child needs some space to talk.
Best,
Monica Diaz

Important Extended Care Schedule Changes
Extended Care Schedule Changes
Due to our staff Christmas party on 12/14/22 ALL students in Extended Care MUST be picked up by 4:30pm.

Viator Parish Tuition Rate Reminder
The most significant criteria to qualify for the Viator Parish rate is regular attendance at Sunday Mass using your envelopes.
In order to qualify for the Viator rate you MUST:
- Attend a minimum of 26 masses (Saturday or Sunday)
- Use the envelopes sent to you from the church
- Families may write “Attendance” on envelopes instead of submitting a monetary donation in the envelope
- ALL envelopes MUST be placed in the collection baskets on Saturday or Sunday Masses only.
- Forgot your envelope? Remember your parish number and use a blank envelope provided at mass
DO NOT
- Mail in your envelopes to St. Viator church. These will not be counted.
- Place envelopes in the wall collection box. These will not be counted.
- Place envelopes on the countertop of the church. These will not be counted.
- Drop off your envelope in the church on a school mass day. These will not be counted.
- Drop off multiple envelopes at once.
- Forget the envelope and tell the church or school you went.
Tuition review will happen in December and you should have at least 13 masses by this time. All rates will be reviewed and possibly adjusted after the assessment. If your rate is adjusted it will be reflected on the December statement. Please DO NOT call or email the school office or church office to ask if changes are being made until after the receipt of your statement.
Remember, parents are a model of faith for their children and when families join us on a regular basis they are showing their children the priority faith and church has in their lives.
