Counselor's Corner
Hi there! My name is Casi Wetzel and I am your school counselor. These past few days with students in the hallway has been amazing! This year I am asking you to fill out a needs assessment survey to help guide my counseling curriculum. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdq7SgEoI4N92oFIjil-axajf2k3qfSGIGLjnl37q-_fODBdw/viewform?usp=sf_link is the link and it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. Thank you in advance for taking time to complete it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 913-780-7540 or cawetzel@olatheschools.org. I look forward to another great year at MP!

ALICE Protocol
Families - Providing a safe and secure learning environment for students is of paramount importance in the Olathe Public Schools. The district has numerous practices, procedures and protocols in place each day to ensure a safe learning environment. The district has a safety protocol program called ALICE. ALICE is a protocol that enhances previous lockdown procedures. The U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other educational leadership and governmental agencies have recommended that school districts develop a protocol that provides options to students and staff when facing threat or harm from an aggressive intruder.
ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. ALICE empowers staff to exercise options in the event of such a critical incident, based on real-time information gathered during the incident. This enhanced protocol does not dictate to staff or students how they should react, but merely provides options for actions in addition to traditional lockdown.
This week, your child talked about this with myself, the counselor, and their teacher. You are welcome to go to the following link to watch the video that they watched so that you can have a discussion with them about what to do in case of an emergency at school.
