LETTER FROM MR. COUTO
First off, I want to thank our leadership students for all of the work that has gone in to making our Winter Spirit week a great success. Seeing so many students and staff participate in the dress up days and lunch activities has brought positive energy into the end of the semester. We will finish off the week with the Winter Informal which is another example of our leadership students designing an event that has options that go beyond just the dance, but creates multiple spaces for dance goers to share in community.
As we head into the final week of the semester I am amazed by the learning that students have engaged in throughout the semester. Students have grown in so many ways this year. I have seen in Strength Interval class students, actually grown both physical muscle and mental toughness. In so many of our English classes students have become more confident readers and writers, with a greater ability to express their thoughts in more sophisticated ways. The creativity that has been demonstrated in science, art, and CTE classes keeps me in awe of the diversity of our community.
We are headed into our last week of the semester which brings some final moments for students to demonstrate their learning either through presentations, papers or assessments. I hope that you will find moments to celebrate with you child the many ways that they have grown in this first half of the year. It has been a great first half and we are looking forward to a great second semester.

Are you a young person interested in sharing your opinions on school-based mental health supports in Washington? Are you a parent, caregiver, or loved one of a young person with lived experience receiving mental health supports in Washington schools?
The school-based Behavioral Health & Suicide Prevention Subcommittee is looking for community members interested in engaging with system partners across the state on improving school-based behavioral health supports through resource sharing and the creation of policy recommendations.
Payment (called a stipend) of $45 per hour to a daily maximum of $200 is available to subcommittee members who have experience as a youth or a parent/caregiver in the behavioral health system. Reimbursement for childcare or elder care is also available.
Meetings are bi-monthly (every other month) and take place on the first Friday of even-numbered months, from 9 am - noon. The first meeting will be Friday, February 3rd, 2023.
Interested in engaging with us but not able to attend meetings?
No problem! We'd love to work with you to identify forms of engagement that work for you, your family, and your schedule. If this is the case, please check "Unable to attend meetings" in response to Question 10 and we'll follow up with you to chat about options for engagement. Have questions or concerns? Feel free to reach out to Christian at email@example.com anytime!

SCHOOL CLOSURE INFORMATION
Emergency and Weather Procedures
It’s that time of year to think about snow and our procedures and impact of weather-related school cancellations. Depending on conditions, school could close for the day; open two hours late with regular bus routes or snow bus routes; or open on time with snow bus routes.
How can I get weather/emergency information?
Changes to the school schedule are usually announced before 6 a.m., and we use a variety of methods to keep families informed:
- To receive email and/or text alerts you need an email address and cell phone number in Skyward. We send updates through our notification tool, ParentSquare, which receives phone and email contact information data from Skyward, our student information system.
- Tune to local media or check bellinghamschools.org and the district’s social media accounts: @BhamSD on Twitter, @bellinghamschools on Facebook and @bellinghamschools on Instagram
- Call 360-676-6400 for a recorded message or 360-647-6815 for a message translated in Español, русский, tính từ and Punjabi.
Please familiarize yourself with our weather procedures at bellinghamschools.org/weather and we encourage families to know their bus snow route
