A Little Love From Kindergarten
Moving to Online Learning
Online learning begins Monday, May 10 with a tentative return to in-class learning on May 25th. Online learning days will be full-days of learning just as it is when children are at school. Thank you for noting these days are therefore different from the emergency learning that occurred March to June 2020. This online learning time will be more robust than our three online learning days in January 2021.
Your OLA Learning Team has worked hard these past few days and collaborated together to establish learning and growing priorities during at-home learning. Your child’s daily lessons and activities will integrate the following priorities and goals:
Our Catholic Faith/Religion
Connections with your child’s teachers, their classmates and OLA staff
Wellness through physical activity and music
Literacy
Healthy mix of online and offline learning activities
Numeracy
Social Studies and Science
Joy!!!!
Grade 1-4s learning day will include three scheduled and expected google meets. Our Kindergarten students will have two scheduled and expected Google Meets each day, for each Kinder class on their regular Kindergarten Day. This means that children in the Monday/Wednesday class will participate in online learning on their scheduled learning days of Monday and Wednesdays, and any Friday’s as per the Kindergarten Calendar linked here.
During these google meets, children will connect with each other and their teacher as well as gain an understanding of the lessons for the day. The google meets will help set your child up for success, and help them successfully complete their learning tasks for the day.
Attendance will be taken at each google meet. As with any learning day, thank you for emailing ola@eics.ab.ca or using the Safe Arrival APP should your child be absent from learning.
Students and families have the flexibility of working on goals and learning objectives at any point in the day when not in google meets.
The schedule for these google meets is outlined below. This schedule is being shared with you today so you can plan for success. We encourage you to write this schedule on your calendar or post it on your fridge. The google meet schedule has been coordinated to the best of our ability to help families with multiple children, as we know access to technology and connectability may be “bumpy.”
Every Day Google Meets:
9:00am -- 3MK, 3SK, 4E, 4P
9:30am -- 1MW, 1&2M, 2C

Please note there may be slight changes to this schedule at the class level. Thank you for always referring to your child's Google Classroom or daily slides for each day's confirmed schedule. :-)
Links for the google meets, along with all of the information needed for learning, will be located in your child’s Google Classroom. Should you have challenges accessing your child’s Google Classroom, please review the emails sent to you by your child’s teacher (thank you for checking your junk mail). Please feel free to connect with your child’s teacher should you still encounter challenges accessing Google Classroom by emailing them or connecting with them through the OLA website contact page linked here. The OLA office will remain open for phone connects and emails to assist you during at-home learning. We are here to help!
Teachers will be available outside of the google meets listed above and during regular school hours. They are best reached by email or through the Google Meet links when not in scheduled Google Meets with their students. Teachers may also organize small group meets, and/or drop-in meets to support student learning needs. Teachers will share daily learning goal expectations through their Google Classroom for when students are working offline.
We are all in this together! We thank you in advance for your continued partnership, and for connecting with us to support your child’s learning needs. We are here to help.
We will continue to pray that we return to face to face learning as soon as possible. Until then, we will continue to Choose Joy and make the best of our learning and connecting while growing together virtually!
God’s blessings to you,
From Your OLA Learning Team and OLA Family

Mystery Readers in Kindergarten!
The Chicks are Back!
Stay tuned!
Check out "The Chicken Coop" website where Mrs. Lukie shares all the news about the chicks!
We can't wait to start OLA's second year of hatching chicks! Mrs. Lukie started her eggs in both incubators on May 1. That means we'll have chicks hatching on or around May 22. Look back here on May 20 when we start live-streaming.
Although we aren't live streaming right now, you can look below at previous videos. What are the size of the eggs? What's an incubator? Look below for answers.
If you would like to learn a little about the chicks you see in the videos, check out the "Meet and Peep" page. You will find a few names and personality traits of each one.
Parent Volunteers - To Spray Paint!

Hot Lunch May 13 & 20
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On May 4th Premier Jason Kenny announced all schools will be going online, with an expected return date of May 25th. Therefore, students will not be in the building during the May 13th and May 20th hot lunches.
If you paid for these hot lunches, the amount paid will be credited into your PowerSchool account. Should we return later than May 25th, or go online again in the future we will automatically credit those additional amounts to your account.
The PowerSchool credits can be used to pay for future hot lunches and any other school fees that get paid on PowerSchool. We appreciate your patience waiting for the credit to show on your account.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the credit you can contact our school secretary Mrs. Desaulniers by emailing susan.desaulniers@eics.ab.ca
