Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
We had some adorable visitors this week! We were fortunate to have three week old lambs visit Hallinan yesterday. One of our amazing Pre-K families set up a pen and brought their beautiful animals for our Pre-K students to experience up close. This fun event occurred during recess time, so some of our older students also had the opportunity to view these beautiful and soft baby lambs.
Conferences started today and we're delighted to see so many of you at Hallinan and on zoom - thank you for supporting your children! If you are in our amazing building, please stop to take a look at all the wonderful artwork and projects on our bulletin boards. I'm going to highlight a few below in case you missed them.
Also, don't forget to check out the Lost and Found located in the main entry. We would love to reunite your family with lost items - we've got jackets, sweatshirts, hats, water bottles and a whole lot more!

PTO Information
Hello Hallinan Families!
Slice of Gratitude
We are thankful for all the parents who participate in various PTO events. Through our events and fundraisers we are able to support our students in a variety of ways:
PTO Funds
This year the PTO was able to purchase items for most of our classrooms including PE, STEM, and Music. We will continue to include photos and information in the upcoming weeks. Here's a link to some of the projects students created in STEM:

And Ben Haynor was kind enough to model his new PA system for us:
Staff Appreciation
May 8th-12th is staff appreciation week. There will be an event schedule for the week shared here in the HS, on social media and through Room Parents. There are fun ways you and your child(ren) can show your appreciation for all our incredible staff. Please check your inboxes for a Sign-Up Genius related to staff appreciation. Thank you!

Missoula Children's Theater
This week, we visited each classroom and presented MCT information. Kids were told that they all have an opportunity to interact with professional theater directors for two hours on Monday, May 1st. To paraphrase what a professional actress recently said to us, auditions are valuable because kids spend time being immersed in a character. Even if just for a while, that process can be a transformative experience. Acting during an audition is a rewarding experience that all Hallinan kids (choosing to audition) will be able to grow from.
Through auditions, 60 kids will be chosen for the play. The MCT directors will discreetly let students know if they get a part. We hope all children leave enriched by the experience, learning a new skill, and maybe deciding to interact with theater again in the future. We will have more MCT news coming up!

We still have openings for PTO President and PTO Volunteer coordinator.

Oregon State Assessment Opt-Out Form
Each school year, Oregon students take assessments to meet federal requirements. The purpose of these assessments is to provide data that schools can use to ensure that every child is on track and achieving learning goals.
State law requires us to inform you that a form is available from the State Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of the math and English Language Arts assessments for the current school year. Should you wish to opt out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office at your child’s school. Please note the submission deadlines listed on the form. Meeting the deadline will help the school with planning and preparation. If you wish your child not to participate in the science assessment for grades 5, 8, and 11, submit this request in writing to the principal of your child's school.
If you have questions or want more information about state assessments, please contact your child’s principal or teacher(s).

Safe Oregon
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal and maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/
In addition, below are reporting methods for parents-guardians or students to use to report issues related to racist, bias, or harassment incidents.
