Important Information for End of Year Celebrations
Dear StingRAE Parents,
Thank you for coming out to our Celebrations of Learning last Friday. We loved seeing all of your smiling faces. We hope you enjoyed celebrating your awesome children with us!
5th Grade Celebration on Wednesday, May 24, 2023
We are asking ALL parents to RSVP, even if unable to attend, so that we are sure we are accounting for all families and planning accordingly. Space is limited so the maximum number of guests is 4. You should have already received your Raptor badges IF you were registered in the Raptor system. If a guest has not visited our school and "raptored" in this year, he/she must visit RAE by Tuesday, May 23, 2023 to receive a Raptor badge.
IMPORTANT: Parents must wait until 7:50 a.m. to line up outside the gym. Do not get in line earlier as we will be conducting arrival from 7:25-7:50 a.m. Doors will open at 8:15 a.m.
Thank you so much for your cooperation. We are so excited to celebrate this special milestone with all of our amazing students and their families!
Sincerely,
Charmaine Hobin
ACCESS TO 2023 STATE TESTING RESULTS USING THE FAMILY PORTAL
Parent Directions to Access State Testing Results are located on the RAA state testing site - https://www.katyisd.org/Page/4265
The STAAR redesign was fully implemented in the spring 2023 for all grades/subjects and courses. Due to the changes, the reporting of performance standards will be later in the summer. As in previous years, the state assessment outcomes will provide families with detailed information about their student’s areas of strength, as well as any gaps in learning. Parents can access the state’s Family Portal for assessment results by using their child’s Unique Student Access Code. Parents may utilize the Parent Directions To Access State Testing Results (ENG./SPA.) document located on the Katy ISD Department of Research, Assessment, and Accountability website. Final test results will be available in the Family Portal by the end-of-day listed in the chart below:
Clinic News - Important
I can't believe summer is upon us! We will be returning medications that have been kept in the clinic this week. If your student has a controlled medication stored here such as ADHD medication or seizure medication, a parent will need to pick this up as it cannot be sent home with a student per KISD policy. If your student has a controlled medication or you do not wish for your student to take home their medications, please contact me to schedule a pickup time. The front office and clinic are very busy this time of year and we'd really appreciate advanced notice. All medications must be returned or picked up by 12pm on 5/26/2023 or it will be discarded.
Summer is a great time to take your student for their annual check-up. Please be sure to check if your student is due for any vaccines so they will be caught up for next year. We will also need updated medication forms for the 23-24 school year. You may access all medication forms and KISD vaccine requirements here: RAE Clinic Website.
As always, if you have any questions, please email me.
Have a wonderful and safe summer!

Please keep your students Back Pack Tag Holder for next year. If you need a replacement, they will be available on Pay-n-Go for $2.00. If you need a lanyard replacement, you can also purchase those for $3.00, and replacement ID badges will be $5.00. You student will get their new ID at no charge the first week of school.

Library Resources
All library books and RAE Chromebooks are due back from students. If a Chromebook is needed for academics over the summer, please email RAELibrary@katyisd.org.
Sora is a fabulous app full of e-books, audiobooks, and magazines that Katy ISD students can read year-round, including during the summer! Katy ISD students are allowed to check out four books at a time from Sora, and can also place two books on hold. Sora can be accessed via MyKatyCloud, or by downloading the Sora app and searching “Katy ISD” under school name (not Alexander). Students can also connect their Fort Bend or Harris county public library card to their Sora account to check out books from both the Katy ISD online library and public library. Happy reading!
The Fort Bend county library is hosting their annual youth summer reading challenge! Registration begins May 29th and prizes can be claimed between June 5th and August 31st. Prizes include bookmarks, certificates, wristbands, and reading trophies. Free and fun events are scheduled all summer long for kids of all ages. More information can be found here for the elementary school program. Students who have completed the 5th grade can choose to participate in the middle school reading program.

Lost and Found
Has your child lost their favorite cold weather item? Do they tell you they can’t find the winter coat that you know you purchased for them, maybe even more than once, just a few weeks ago? We may have found it! Check out our StingRAE Lost and Found and see if you can spot anything that you’re missing!
We have quite a few jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes in the lost and found at this time. We found a few with names, but most were not labeled. If you are visiting your child for lunch please make sure you check the lost and found for any missing items. Parents can come and visit the lost and found on 5/16, 5/18, and 5/19 even if it is not during your child’s assigned lunch time. If your child is missing an item please ask them to check the lost and found. Due to space constraints, all coats will be donated and water bottles disposed of on May 19, 2023. Please be sure to collect your items by the end of day on May 19, 2023.
Please remember to label your child’s water bottle, lunch box, and jackets/coats. We are often able to return them to your child’s classroom if they are labeled with a first name, last name, or both.
Our next donation day will be Friday, May 26, 2023. All items left at the end of the school year will be donated
If you are interested in joining Read Deed Run next year, please fill out the "Early Interest Form Below. We would love for you to get started on your activities over the summer!

Kick off the summer with your dancing shoes!
The Cinco Ranch Cougar Stars invite your dancer to join them for a fun camp with a special performance on the football field that evening.
Please complete this form to report your student's FULL DAY ABSENCE (for CURRENT DAY ONLY). FULL DAY Absences must be reported daily before 2:30pm.
Reporting an Absence for your child is important.
The preferred, simplest, accurate and most prompt method is Online reporting.
For multiple continuous days and doctor notes, please email RAEstudentattendance@katyisd.org stating the reason for the absence, legal first and last name, teacher, and grade. If an absence does not meet the criteria for an excused absence as specified in KISD Board policy, the absence will be considered unexcused. All notes from a healthcare provider MUST be turned into the attendance office within (5) days upon student's return to school.
Injuries
We hate to see our StingRAEs injured, but we know it happens sometimes. If your student has an injury such as a broken bone (fracture) or sprain and cannot participate in physical activities, our coaches and nurse need documentation. If it is a mild injury that you are monitoring at home, your child may sit out of PE for up to 10 days with a parent note. If it is a more serious injury, we will need a letter from your student's doctor. It is KISD policy that your child can not return to physical activities until we have received an updated letter from the doctor stating that your child is cleared to return to physical activities.
Please know that if your child cannot participate in PE, they must also sit out during recess. They may walk or do other very low impact activities such as a boardgame or sidewalk chalk during recess.
We want your students to participate as much as possible. Please keep us updated on their injuries and provide updated doctor's notes so that they may return to all the fun as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your help and cooperation,
Coach Leppert, Coach Barrera, and Nurse Amanda

Katy ISD is excited to announce the implementation of the District’s Raptor Volunteer Initiative for the upcoming school year. Beginning October 1, the district will require all volunteers serving on campus during the instructional day to register with the district through its Raptor security system. Raptor ensures quick and easy volunteer registration allowing individual volunteers to create and manage a personal volunteer profile.
In addition, the Raptor Volunteer Initiative will:
• Provide an additional layer of protection for Katy ISD students, staff, volunteers, and campus visitors
• Unite all district volunteers into one Katy ISD volunteer community
• Measure and communicate the positive impact of Katy ISD volunteer organizations Once registered and approved, individual volunteers can:
• Submit and track hours via their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus at which they volunteer
• The system also provides quick and easy submission of individual off campus volunteer hours
The volunteer registration requirement will extend to all volunteers serving
on or off-campus, during or after the instructional day effective January 4.
