SAMO Fund Guest Speakers
On Thursday October 13th, we are excited to host a very special alternative CLASS ACTS event. Antonio Sanchez, along with his team from the Santa Monica Mountains Fund Conservation Nursery (SAMO Fund) will be guest educators here at Homestead. The Santa Monica Mountains (SAMO) Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that funds habitat restoration, hiking trail improvement, educational programs, and wildlife conservation in the Santa Monica Mountains - our Nationβs largest urban national park, located in the greater Los Angeles area of Southern California. We encourage all of our students to join us as we learn about their work in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and how it relates to our own backyard. From Monarchs, to milkweed, to establishing our own native plant garden here at Homestead, it promises to be an enriching day of learning, fun, and a little hard work. Students can pack a lunch for the day or request a cafeteria lunch here.
For this event, we will begin at 11am and end at 3pm. Email bret.klopfenstein@venturausd.org with questions.

Counselor's Corner
Hi Homestead Families,
I canβt believe we are already in October! It has been really nice to connect with students during our Class Acts and have the time to get to know them. We played games, made new friends, and learned new social skills. Moving into October, the focus for counseling is Bullying Prevention month. What that looks like is, showing kindness, acceptance, and acknowledging differences amongst one another.
On Thursdays, in October, during Class Acts, I will be teaching grade level lessons on how to be an upstander and not a bystander. We will learn to recognize the difference between what may be a mean moment vs. bullying. This also falls in line with learning how to be appropriate on zoom and practicing digital citizenship. To show unity for the month of October, I invite the students and staff to wear Orange or our Homestead T-shirts for βUnityβ Day on Thursday, October 20th. Unity Day is sending the message that we are united for courage, kindness, inclusion, and to prevent students from being bullied and instead to stand up for one another.
As always, if there are any questions, feel free to contact me. If you would like to meet during office hours, or a student would like to meet, please let me know prior, and if office hours are not the best time, I have availability for scheduled appointments.
Kind regards,
Danielle Zide
