Superintendent's Report
Dr. Steven M. Yanni - September 2022
On the Agenda - There are a number of agenda items on which I would like to focus as part of my report this evening. They are:
- Enrollment - Our enrollment currently stands at 4,088; we ended the 2021-2022 school year at 4,041. Regarding kindergarten students, we enrolled 300 (projection was 314) for the 2022-2023 school year.
- Educational Advisory Committee (EAC) - The EAC serves in an advisory role to the Board and Superintendent and conducts research on a number of educational topics annually. The EAC has a number of new members as well as returning members this year. The Board is asked to approve the EAC membership.
Off to a Great Start - Thank you to everyone who made the start of the school year great for our kids. Planning for a new school year can be a daunting task; however, our staff did an excellent job preparing for our students to return!
Universal Free Breakfast - Governor Wolf announced that all schools with breakfast programs will provide universal free breakfast for students effective October 1, 2022. Breakfast will be free for ALL students from October 1, 2022, through the end of the school year.
National Hispanic Heritage Month - Every year from September 15th to October 15th, Americans celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by appreciating the community’s history, heritage, and contributions of the ancestors of American citizens who came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and South- and Central America.
Vaccine Clinic - Thanks to Eric's RX Shoppe, UDSD is once again hosting a vaccine clinic. The following vaccines/shots will be offered:
- Pfizer COVID-19 Variant Booster - Ages 12+ (Anyone who completed their primary series (Pfizer, Moderna, or J&J) can get a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Bivalent Booster; must be 12+ years of age; and must be a minimum of 2 months from the completion of a primary series or last booster dose.)
- Flu Shots - Ages 3+ (High Dose for ages 65+)
Registration information was included in the September edition of our newsletter, News from the Nest. We will send a registration reminder this week.
District App - We are pleased to continue the roll-out of our District app. Available for both iPhones and Android, the app provides a great deal of UDSD information right on your phone. Stay up to date with announcements and events by using the app.
Welcome, Mrs. Hawthorne - Last Monday evening Mrs. Alima Hawthrone took the Oath of Office and was seated as a member of the Board. This evening is her first official Legislative meeting. We look forward to working with you, Mrs. Hawthorne!
A Very Generous Donation - This evening, we ask the Board to accept a bequest from Eun Sook Liebling. Eun Sook Liebling taught in the District from 1979-1999, teaching mostly tenth-grade English. She was a passionate, dedicated teacher who saw the value in public education. Her legacy will live on here in the Upper Dublin School District. Each year two students who intended to pursue careers in education at an accredited four-year college or university will be awarded $10,000 each toward their education from the Eun Sook Liebling Scholarship.
