Energy Week Challenge April 24 to 28
During the week of April 24-28 Wylie's Green Team will be emphasizing ways to protect our environment. Recycling is one of ways we can protect our environment.
The recycle regatta is an optional parent-child project. This is a chance for your child to build something out of trash or recyclable materials. No items should be bought in order to build your boat. (legos, boat models, or ship models) There is a strong emphasis on using recycled items. Items that you would otherwise discard.
· The length of the boat should be no longer than 8” max.
· The width of the boat must be less than 3”. The whole boat must fit within 3” due to the width of the lanes.
· The sail should not extend beyond the overall width of 3“, because it may hang up on the gutters. The sail should not be in contact with any part of the boat except the mast.
Make sure you have checked your boat for buoyancy (make sure it floats).
Sometime during the day the class will go outside and race their boats with their classmates.
Please bring your boat to school on or before April 24. Have fun making your boat at home and watching it race.
· Kindergarten will race their boats on Tuesday April 25th from 12:15 to 1:00
· First grade will race their boats on Wednesday April 26th.

Boats must be less than 3” wide.

Wylie ISD 2017-18 Calendar Release
If you have not seen the updated calendar for next year, it is posted on the district website. There is a survey that you can give feedback regarding changes you would like to see.
For the most part, it is similar to this year's. Some changes that have occurred include:
- School will start August 21, the third Monday of August, opposed to the fourth Monday. The district applied for a waiver to do this.
- Christmas Break starts on a Thursday and ends on a Tuesday, making the break for staff 13 days, opposed to the typical 16 days.
- They added a teacher work day following Christmas Break.
- Spring Break is now aligned with Dallas County and Collin County community colleges. So it is now the 2nd week of March.
