Freshman Olympics 2023!
Freshman Olympics was a blast. The games began on Friday when each group of 3 or 4 student leaders went into their freshman advisories to start the door decorating process. Each advisory created a name for themselves and decided on a theme for their door. Over the next three days, each group put their heart and soul into their door resulting in wonderfully vibrant and proud decorations. On Tuesday, a jar full of candy was passed around and each advisory put in a guess as to how many pieces there were. Throughout the whole competition, freshmen were also on the hunt for hidden paws around the school.
In each of these competitions, the freshmen had the chance to rack up points for their advisories. Once the school staff voted on the best door decorations, the final events were set to begin. During the last period on Thursday, advisories competed in hula hoop-passing, rock paper scissors, and a pass the ping pong ball relay. After these games, the 8 teams with the most points moved on to the final rounds. After the quarterfinals, a semifinal of king-of-the-court badminton narrowed the field to the final two to face off in the tug-of-war, Mr. Devlin’s Duncan Donuts were crowned the Class of 2027 Freshman Olympics champions.

Dia de los Muertos
Please check out the Library!
For the second consecutive year, students in the HCC- Hispanic Cultural Club, Spanish VI, and AP Spanish following the Mexican tradition created a beautiful altar to showcase and celebrate The Day of the Death at MHS! This tradition, widely observed by Hispanic/ Latinx communities in the United States and across Latin America takes place on November 1st and 2nd. The Day of the Death, known as “ Día de los Muertos or Difuntos” in Spanish, is a time for remembrance, reflection, and celebration of the lives of our loved ones. As shown in the pictures, our Altar or “ofrenda” is adorned with candles, skulls, marigolds, food, pictures, and of course “ el pan de muerto” as well as other objects intended to capture the essence of loved ones who have passed away. It reflects the cultural richness and significance of this celebration.
The effort students put into creating this Altar for this celebration was a journey with opportunities to learn about and appreciate the customs and traditions of this day in Mexico as well as in other parts of Latin America. For all involved in making this “ofrenda”, it was a unique and unifying experience. We hope you visit the display in the library, and join the celebrations no matter your cultural bac
