The Weekly Grind in Cafe 226
Keep up-to-date on all the happenings in our classroom!
Congratulations to our November Homework Club Members!
Amanda Blain, Sydney Derkevorkian, Carsen Troub, Zach Beckett, and Samuele Pierce for staying in Homework Club for the month of November!
These fantastic five have turned in every homework assignment on time for Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies, Writing, and Spelling!
Important Reminders!
2. This Wednesday, December 9th is also our field trip to Meadowbrook to see "A Christmas Carol". We will be leaving immediately when school begins!
3. This week is the Scholastic Book Fair! Our class will shop on Thursday, December 10th from 10-10:30am.
This Week in Math...
-Determine whether solving a word problem requires multiplication or division
-Solve numerical and word problems involving all four operations with fractions
-Review for Unit 3 Test
Remember to look for corrected homework in Friday Folders! I will be correcting about 3-5 questions on each homework assignment in order to provide you and your child with feedback on how they are doing with each concept.
**Please remember that topics are subject to change depending on the pace at which we master each new concept.
"Wonder" is Underway in Reading!
Some reading strategies we will work on this week include:
-Paying attention to character's struggles and challenges
-Using prompts to develop complex ideas about characters
-Paying attention to recurring themes and details in stories
-Read-aloud with accountable talk
Be sure to ask your child how they are doing with their weekly letters, and ask to see their Reader's Notebook if you have not seen it lately!
*Please remember that your child should be reading for at least 30 minutes, 5 times per week. Their reading log should be filled out and signed by you frequently!
Words Their Way - Spelling
Challenge words for all students:
1. admit
2. adopt
3. advanced
4. advantage
5. advertise
What's New in Writing?
We are now in the publishing stage!
I anticipate that we will need about two more days of typing. Our TENTATIVE due date is: Wednesday, December 9th. It is possible that this due date will be pushed back depending on the speed of our typing and the amount of final changes our writers need to make.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions!
Your child's Realistic Fiction assignment can be accessed at home through Google Drive or Google Classroom now that they have created it. Please make sure you are checking in with them to make sure they're on track to finish typing in about another two days.
