The Wilson Way
ACE-ing our way through the school year
Principal's Message
Friday, February 16th
We had a great week and love has been in the air since last Friday's school dance! The students had a wonderful time at the dance and it was nice to see them enjoy themselves. We also LOVED seeing our current students volunteering to help at our 5th grade Showcase! Thank you cheerleaders and Student Council!
This next week, we start with a holiday and jump into interim testing. Check out the list of days in the campus section below. In addition, seat time will be assigned for students to make up. What is it? Read more about it in the campus section below as well.
Here's what's coming this week:
Monday, February 19th - Student and teacher holiday!
Thursday, February 22nd is the ELA Benchmark - All grade levels will test in ELA during 1st through 3rd period. Please try not to pull students off campus during this time. Students who miss the test will take it during a makeup day.
Thursday, February 22nd and 23rd - 6th grade student registration during PE classes. Counselors will support all the students as they input their classes for next year.
Wrapping It Up:
Please talk with your student about taking the test seriously. The data we receive from this test helps inform us of the support students need to perform on grade level. We appreciate you partnering with us to help our students thrive academically.

Interim Benchmark Testing
All tests will take place from 1st to 3rd period. These tests inform us where are students are in their learning and help us make plans to get them to perform on grade level. Here are the upcoming February test:
Feb. 22nd - ELA (All students)
Feb. 27th - Math (All students)
Feb. 29th - Science (8th grade only)
Please make sure students bring charged Chromebooks and eat breakfast at home or at school. It's important they get some solid sleep the night before each test. Poor performance could land them in an academic intervention they weren't counting on.
Student Seat Time Coming Soon!
What is Seat Time? It's like a detention but VERY important. Here's why: A student is in danger of losing course credit or being denied promotion because of excessive absences as noted on the attached attendance record. State law requires a student to be in class 90 percent of the days a class is offered in order to gain credit or to be considered for promotion. The attendance for credit statute does not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences in fulfilling the 90 percent attendance requirement.
If your student is in a course in which they will receive a high school credit, and they have not met the 90% rule, they will lose that credit and have to re-take the class again when they get into high school. How do we prevent the loss of credit? We assign students seat time to make up the hours that they've lost due to absences.
Our counselors, Mrs. McKinnie and Mrs. Johnson will be getting letters out by the end of the month.

NISD Food Pantry
The Northwest ISD monthly Mobile Food Pantry is changing locations and implementing a drive-thru service. Beginning on February 17, the monthly food pantry will move to the district’s temporary administration building, located at 2051 Texan Drive in Justin. This is located next door to the previous location, which is now a construction zone.
Attendees should enter Texan Drive from F.M. 156 (rather than S.H. 114), as traffic will not be allowed to turn left from Texan Drive into the food pantry location. For more information, read this news article.
EXPO 2024
Northwest ISD's EXPO showcase annually celebrates future-ready learning by involving fellow students, teachers and the community in an exhibition of Northwest ISD’s innovative and inspiring educational opportunities. The event gives students the chance to shine as they fine tune their presentation skills and communicate their innovative ideas in a variety of ways. Wilson MS has 10 presentations!
Please join us as we celebrate our student achievements on February 29, at Byron Nelson High School, located at 2775 Bobcat Boulevard in Trophy Club. For additional information, visit the EXPO website.
Teacher Interview Fair
Northwest ISD will host a teacher interview fair from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, where quality teacher applicants can attend an event to meet district administrators and have interviews.
Because this is an invitation-only event, interested individuals must complete an employment application and apply to the interview fair at this link. Qualified candidates will receive additional information and details.
The Big Event (it's real)
The Big Event is the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation and it will take place this year on Saturday, April 27 with Byron Nelson High School hosting the kickoff!
