MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
2nd Edition September 23rd, 2016
As you may have heard, we had an added surprise this week when we were able to privately host Chicago Bulls' Jimmy Butler at our beloved facility. We were happy to open our doors to such a world-class athlete and provide him with a space in which to continue his athletic conditioning. Needless to say, once word spread that Mr. Butler was our guest, students could hardly contain their enthusiasm throughout the school!
Speaking of outstanding athletes - come join us at tonight's home football game as we celebrate SENIOR NIGHT, honoring all senior members of Dance, Cheer, Athletic Trainers, and Football and their equally dedicated parents! The recognition will take place between games on the field!

Our Spiritual Journey...
from the Spiritual Director's corner...
Marian Central hosted its annual class Masses this past week, a great opportunity for individual grade levels to gather, pray with and for each other, and develop class unity. It was inspiring to share the messages that God had for each class. Looking ahead to next Friday (Sept. 30th), we want to let you know that the freshmen will be having their class retreat here at Marian Central. It will run all day, 8am - 2:30pm, and is hosted by our senior class retreat team leaders. It's always a fun day, filled with games, talks, and class bonding. Freshmen students will be allowed out of uniform for the day.
You can email Rev. T. Doyle at tdoyle@marian.com.
Student Activities and News
The 2015-2016 Yearbook delivery is underway! On Friday, Sept. 23rd, the Publications class hand-delivered almost 500 yearbooks during one class period! If your student was absent on delivery day, the Publications team will be making repeated delivery "sweeps" next week as well. We encourage all students to immediately write their name in their book as soon as they receive them, as we cannot replace lost books. If your student did not receive a yearbook, and you believe you paid for one - have your student stop by Ms. Gallagher's classroom (127) to get an order inquiry form. Also, if there are any surplus books available, we will let you know in a future newsletter how to order your own copy!
Epi-Pens & Inhalers: Students who have up-to-date prescriptions on file in the school office for either Epi-pens or Inhalers are now allowed to carry them throughout the school day. If your student is taking gym, please encourage them to take their pen/inhaler with them if they go outside. Our wonderful P.E. staff will help support this effort to keep your students safe by holding the material during gym activities, and keeping these life-saving medications close at hand.
Junior Concession Workers Needed! We really need help with the concessions for the Homecoming game. Please encourage your junior to sign up to work this event and fulfill their class obligation (and receive a lower Prom ticket price!) There are multiple shifts available that will fit any schedule. The more workers we have, the shorter those concession lines will be at Homecoming! It's a win-win!
Parking Lot Improvements: Ms. Novy, Mr. Etten, and representatives from the Village of Woodstock have met several times to discuss ways in which we can improve traffic flow and minimize the safety risks to our students in our entrances, exits, and parking lots. Stay tuned for a more detailed report and plan on that in the coming weeks. We truly appreciate all the positive feedback we have already received from families as we work to protect students!
Early Dismissals/In-School Illness: If your student needs to leave school early for any reason, please send a note with your student BEFORE 8am that day. Students must have an office-generated Early Dismissal pass to leave class early. This pass cannot be issued without a note from the parent/guardian prior to 8am that day.
Also - if your student needs to come to the office during the day due to an illness, s/he must do so without texting a parent or guardian. The staff is required to contact the parent/guardian directly, which we will do as soon as the student has safely arrived in the front office.
Lands' End 30% "Friends and Family" Sale! Now, through September 27th, Land's End is offering a 30% discount on sales! Use Promo Code: FRIENDS30 and PIN# 4071 when ordering online. Here's a link to our Uniform Visual Guide!
Marian's Future Looks BRIGHT!
Who Wants a NEW CAR? Back by popular demand, we will be auctioning off another BRAND NEW CAR for this year's auction raffle! Tickets go on sale TONIGHT at the game!
Annual Phone-a-thon: This year's annual Phone-A-Thon will take place October 24th - 27th. Please contact 815-338-4220 ext. 125 if you would like to help with this great event! This is a wonderful way to get involved and work to support our Marian community!

A note about the Theme-Days:
We ask that students please dress appropriately for every theme-day. We want students to have fun, but we also need to always respect the mission and beliefs of our school. Please help us support our students to always make positive choices.
Purchasing Dance Tickets:
Tickets will be on sale every day (Sept. 26-30) during the lunch periods in the cafeteria for $10 per ticket. Please purchase tickets early in the week to prevent a long line on Friday.
Behavior/Dress Code for Dance:
We do request that our young men and women dress and conduct themselves with a sense of modesty and decorum. We embrace the fact that we keep things "old school" and will discourage behavior that is not age-appropriate. We also make sure that every song on the play-list has been approved by our Spiritual Director, and no song requests are allowed at the dance.
Also be advised that we will not allow students to arrive to the dance after 8:30pm. We keep a master list and check off students as they arrive. We do not, however, require students to remain at the dance until a set time. Students who leave the dance are not allowed to return. The dance ends at 10:30 pm, and we will ask students to "check out" at the door should they leave the dance prior to 9:30 pm.
We respect the fact that this is a week of great fun for our students, but also share the responsibility of knowing it's a week of great worry for the adults. We want to be a strong partner with our parents as we keep our students safe.
