Letter from the Principal
Dear Tualatin Black Bear Families,
I wish you all an egg-cellent National Egg Day today. We are looking forward to a fun and strong finish to this school year over the next two weeks. There is important information regarding end of year activities being sent out from teachers. Please look for messages and information from your child’s teacher(s) about the end of year events and activities. We will be able to have volunteers and visitors for outdoor activities like field day and the 5th grade celebration at Ibach Park. Unfortunately, we will not be able to responsibly bring in large numbers of adults for indoor activities who are not signed up as volunteers due to the high transmission rate of COVID-19 in our area. Please remember to schedule with your child’s teacher ahead of time if you are volunteering during the last two weeks of school.
Field Day:
Thank you to all our volunteers who will help with this fun and active outdoor event. Please contact Mr. Hill (thill@ttsd.k12.or.us), or your child’s teacher with any questions about volunteering, or contact our office about coming to watch as a visitor. Volunteers will sign in as usual, and visitors will receive a visitor sticker to display while on campus as a field day spectator.
Enjoy a wonderful first weekend in June. I hope we all get to see at least a few breaks in the rain to get outside for some fun!
With Gratitude,
Mr. Kingery
Principal
Farewell Celebration for Mr. Kingery
June is Pride Month!
June is Pride Month! Pride Celebration is dedicated to uplifting LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, plus) voices, celebrate LGBTQIA+ culture, raise awareness of issues affecting LGBTQIA+ community, and support LGBTQIA+ rights. The rainbow flag symbolizes LGBTQIA+ pride with variations of the flag to represent diversity. Pride is celebrated in June to recognize the 1969 Stonewall Uprising.
If you and your family would like more information to understand the importance of Pride Month, or to help celebrate the amazing individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community, check out the list of books here and here.
If you would like to learn more about some notable LGBTQIA+ figures, and the awesome impact they’ve had, read about them here and here.
Looking for a fun opportunity to celebrate Pride? On Sunday, June 12, join the city of Tigard in their Pride Parade, where you can decorate your car and join in the parade, or watch and cheer from the sidewalk. For more information, visit City of Tigard’s website! For more Pride events around the Portland area, check out this list!
For more resources for your family, check out PFLAG, The Trevor Project, The Family Acceptance Project, Mama Bears, and the CDC.
