BARBER BULLETIN
Week of January 15-19, 2018
SIC DRAFT POLICY: 2ND READING THIS WEEK! Your feedback is important to us!
In an effort to safeguard student health and safety, our SIC has drafted a message regarding edible treats being brought to school for celebrations. It reads as follows:
In order to allow students and teachers to focus on learning and to respect the allergies and dietary choices of students and their families, Pontiac Elementary requests that students and parents refrain from bringing edible treats to school as a form of celebration. If you would like to recognize your child on their birthday, we encourage you to share a non-edible item that supports the learning process. Thank you for respecting this decision. We will continue to evaluate our practices with student equity in mind. We honor your voice in decision making at Pontiac. We have created this Padlet for you to provide feedback. Any feedback you give will be presented to our SIC before we move forward with this practice. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Richland Two Office of Diversity and Multicultural Inclusion
The Office of Diversity and Multicultural Inclusion presents "Pathways to Purpose, Inspiring the Future" to Celebrate Black History Month. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month
The Origins of Black History Month (Video Clip)
This year we will highlight individuals from the Richland Two community with unique and significant contributions to Black history and culture. Individuals will be recognized in the areas of art, education, engineering, music, health, science, technology, and the military.
"Often when we think of historical figures who have shaped our history and culture we think of global or national leaders. We are excited to recognize people from our own Richland Two community who have made significant contributions to black history and culture. We want all of our Richland Two partners (our students, parents, staff and community members) to know about the good work done by our own community members and we especially hope that our students will see something of themselves in the people recognized to reaffirm that they too have what it takes to be premier," Dr. Helen Nelson Grant, Chief Diversity and Multicultural Inclusion Officer.
Nominations for "Pathways to Purpose, Inspiring the Future" are being accepted through January 22.
Nomination Criteria:
1) Individuals can be Richland Two employees, graduates or community members.
2) Contribution to one of the following categories: art and music; education and military; health and science;
