A Message from Mrs. Stevens
As we navigate through our second week journey into distance learning we are here for you and your student/s. I hope your families are safe, healthy and staying positive during these uncharted times.
Our teachers are working diligently to continue in providing the best educational and emotional support by connecting with your student through Google Classroom, Class Dojo and email. We are extremely lucky to have such a dedicated group of teachers and staff who cares about the well being of all our students and their families. Our teachers and myself are available through email or dojo during school hours to support your student.
Please be mindful that our teachers are also balancing working from home and taking care of their families so please be patient as we continue to grow during this process. Your kind emails and messages through these times have been uplifting to our team and we appreciate your thoughts, sentiments and positivity!
With a few days into digital learning I want to reach out and check in at least once a week with all our families. Please fill out and submit Fanning Family Check-In 3/22/20 to share with me how your family is doing.
I will continue to send out any resources that come my way to help distance learning support your student’s needs both educationally, socially and emotionally. Our Brea Olinda District team will also be sending out more resources focused on mental health and where to get support during this time.
Stay strong, safe and healthy! We miss you all and hope to see you all in person.

Message from Dr. Brad Mason, BOUSD Superintendent
March 20, 2020
Dear BOUSD Community,
We’ve officially made it through our first official week of Distance Learning and I know this might be repetitive, but we continue to be so proud of our community. On behalf of the Board of Education, we are so proud of the way our entire community has rallied together in a short period of time. Our community responded with urgency and skill as we worked to transfer our teaching methods from classroom-based to Distance Learning. In a very short period of time, we rolled out a new-to-us way of teaching and learning. It was bold and necessary, and we are proud of our teaching staff, classified staff, and our management team. Each has done amazing work.
We are doing our best to anticipate new challenges on our horizon. Last night, California Governor Newsom issued an open-ended statewide “Safer at Home” order to support the State’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. How the order will be enforced is unclear at this time, but officials said they expect residents to follow the mandatory order until further notice.
What does this mean for BOUSD?
As we continue to work with national, state and local agencies to learn more about what this means for our school district, education is still considered an essential service and our number one priority. School sites will remain closed to the public through April 10, and teachers will continue to facilitate Distance Learning. Ensuring our families receive nutrition has been identified as an essential service and we will continue to serve meals at our campuses and will remain open for that purpose.
As we stated in our communication yesterday, our current and future decisions will continue to be driven by our top priority, which is the health, safety, and welfare of our students, staff and Brea community. We remain committed to communicating any changes to our original plan. Please continue to check our website and social media accounts for updates and information. We will alert you to any change to our student dismissal period as we receive additional guidance through our communication with federal, state, and local officials.
Distance Learning & Technology
Distance Learning is in full swing! Please visit the Distance Learning page on our website for resources. For families in need of technology, please reach out to your site principal to arrange a time for pick-up.
I know times may feel a little uncertain, but I remain optimistic about BOUSD’s future. This week, we proved that nothing will stop us from delivering high-quality education and services to our students and families. Thank you for your partnership and understanding and have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Brad Mason, Ed.D.
