Board of Trustees
Term 2, 8 July 2021
Kia ora Parents, Whānau and Families
Another term has flown by with a flurry of activity!
The mid-term move to COVID-19 alert level 2 was handled wonderfully by our staff, students and their families. Thank you all for your support of our alert level 2 measures, which kept disruption to a minimum. Please keep up with the recommended alert level 1 measures, such as signing in with the NZ COVID tracer app if you are coming onto school premises and keeping your tamariki home if they are feeling unwell. You can help the Board’s Pandemic Response Team keep our plans current by completing the Learning at Home Readiness Survey, if you have not already done so.
Board Member Updates
We would like to thank our previous Board Chair, Zak Sutton, who left the Board this term after joining in 2018. We now have a Casual Vacancy on the School Board for an elected parent representative. The Board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection.
Paparangi School Board makes important decisions about our school’s strategic direction, student progress, management, school culture and more. If you are interested in knowing more about the role of the Board, or in being a Board member, go to the Community Guide to the Role of the School Board or talk to a current trustee. Your Board comprises:
Parent Elected Trustee and Presiding Member – Helen Ashton
Parent Elected Trustee and Deputy Presiding Member – Duncan Kennington
Parent Elected Trustee and Treasurer – Susan Parker
Co-opted Trustee – Cameron Sherley
Principal – Tracey Arthurs
Staff Elected Representative – Amanda Newbery
Casual vacancy for a parent on the Board of Trustees
There is a Casual Vacancy on the School Board for an elected parent representative. However if 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, by 16 July (which is 28 days since this notice was first published) to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held. A request for a by-election should be sent by email to Helen Ashton, Board Chair firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our new school website is live! The new site has lots of new features and content to keep you informed and help you manage your school admin. Many thanks to Duncan Kennington for his dedication to getting our school communication channels up and running.
The new website complements the Paparangi School App launched last year. The app puts all your school admin in one handy place – staff contact lists, calendar events, newsletters, absentee forms, Kindo link and more. To get the app, search for SchoolApps NZ on your phone’s app store, or head to https://paparangi.apps.school.nz/install/ for more information.
We’re currently developing the Master Plan for school ground improvements and we’ll be sharing our ideas and looking for your feedback and suggestions soon – keep an eye out for more information early in Term 3. We will be using a blend of fundraising and grant applications to assist with the cost of implementing the school ground improvements. Thank you to our amazing Home and School committee for all your hard work raising funds – we can’t wait to see the new friendship seat!
We wish Jason Middlemiss all the best for the rest of the year while he takes parental leave.
We are also pleased that Sam Diggins has responded well to her treatment while she’s been away. Sam will be the replacement teacher in Room Four and will teach for three days and Clare Adams will teach in Room 4 for the other two days each week.
After the July term break Trelise Curle will open our next roll-growth class in Team Uenuku. We look forward to welcoming new families to our school. The Board is pleased to welcome Vanessa Janes who will cover release in Team Uenuku. Vanessa is a part time teacher who has worked in our school before.
Keeping in touch
If you would like to contact the Board, or if you want to find out more about what the Board does and how we operate, please speak to the School Office who will put you in touch. The Board wishes you a safe and enjoyable break and look forward to seeing you all again at the start of Term 3.
