This week's quote is "There's a discipline for passion: it's not about how many times you get rejected or fall down and get beaten up, but how many times you stand up, and are brave and you keep going." -Lady Gaga (Oscar Speech for Best Original Song "Shallow")

Thank you Ms. Slawecki for sharing with us these powerful words.

i-Ready has two free apps

Door 24 Plus compliments Curriculum Associates’ i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction program. Students can use the app at home to engage in personalized and game-based learning.

World's Worst Pet (WWP)- Students follow the story of Snargg, possibly the world's worst pet, as they attempt to get him home. In order to get him there, they must complete a series of vocabulary challenges and watch Snargg get into various antics. The vocabulary words are organized into levels and sets. According to developers, World's Worst Pet targets Tier Two and domain-specific words, which simply means it focuses on relevant vocabulary words.

State Testing is on the Horizon

As visions of Spring and warm weather are on everyone's minds, I wanted to share our testing window to aid in Spring planning. Our testing window for the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments Schedule (formally PARCC) will be 4/30/19 - 5/31/19.

Students will have two unit session of ELA (90 minutes for grades 4/5, 75 minutes for grade 3) and three unit sessions (60 minutes each session for all grades) of math. Each unit will be conducted on separate days.

Donations are needed!

With the Spring-like weather comes sniffles and sneezes. To help students with allergies and/or colds, classrooms are in need of tissues. We have 17 homerooms and 13 special areas.

If you would like to donate, please send them in with your child to the office and we will equitably distribute them. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Big picture

Wellness Corner

The dreaded stomach bug…

Allergy season is here again and soon many students will have trouble with swollen, red, watery eyes. If your child takes allergy medicine, please make sure to give it at home. Medications cannot be administered in school without an order from your doctor/medical provider. The district "Medication Authorization" forms are available on the District or Sussex Avenue School websites). Students cannot carry medications of any kind (prescription or non-prescription) around school with them. All medications must be stored in the health office during school hours.

Please remember if your child needs to be excluded from gym or recess for any reason, a note is needed from a doctor/medical provider. We cannot accept notes from parents.

I am happy to meet with any member of the community! Should you like to discuss questions, concerns, or any matter, please contact Ms. Melissa Johnson at 973-292-2250 ext. 6550 to schedule an appointment.
