Great Things!
Tornado drills went smoothly! Thank you everyone for stepping up and carrying on with the drill and drill letters! Nice work!
The Employee Recognition Banquet was beautiful last Wednesday evening. We were able to honor our building winners: Kristin, Lisa, and Sheraden, as well as our building retirees: Cheryl, Susan, and Debbie. Congrats to you all!
Dino O'Dell brought an entertaining and engaging show with him as always. So much fun to watch him interact with the kids and to see the students join in with his songs and story telling!
Challenge: Last week I talked about being stressed and anxious this time of year. This week, try a new breathing technique with the students-partner breathing! Have your students sit back-to-back, then take deep breaths so that they can feel each other breathing and breathe together. Try it out!
Dates to remember:
April 26: Websites were due to be updated
May 1: Faculty meeting 8:00
May 2: Aflac representative available in the staff lounge
May 6-10: Teacher/staff appreciation week
May 8: Nurse's appreciation day
Nuts-n-Bolts:
* The announcements for the week are loaded into the shared file. Heather's a.m. class is featured this week. Next week: Heather's p.m.
*We are skipping to chapter 7 this month-so please read chapter 7 in our Mindset book for our Faculty meeting this week. Also-please bring your mindset journal with you.
*I have noticed quite a few missing car rider/bus rider tags on backpacks this past week. Please make a sweep of your students and replace any missing tags. We have had a lot of subs/other staff stepping in for people-so tags are super important.
*There is still a chance for you to wear jeans and top of your choice on May 6th - as well as donate to a good cause--Cass County Dental. The district is participating in "district wide jeans day" on April 29 and May 6th. For 5$ you can support Cass County Dental and wear jeans and top of your choosing on May 6th. If you would like to participate, please drop your money off at my office. I will be turning in any collections.
*Websites were due to be updated by the end of the day Friday the 26th. Still missing a few.
*May Art in the Office: Heather
* May library book shelving duty: Tammy M & Lenora
Speech/Language Tip of the Week:
Try to be more mindful of listening to how kids are actually saying words. Listen to sound errors and model the corrected version. It can be helpful to point out the actual sound that you heard in error and even write down the word for kids to see that sounds are in words. You might say, “That word has an /s/ in it. Look, I say an /s/ like this. Can you say it like me? Let’s try that word again together. Let’s all say that word together as a class.” This practice helps to promote phonological awareness for all kids.
Hello disappointed....
I am sad to have to announce that our Harriet is going to be leaving us this Wednesday. Unfortunately, the hours she is allowed to work with DESE in retirement have come to an end much earlier than we had originally planned. So please join me in wishing her well and thanking her for her hard work and effort and the time she has given to our students and families-and of course our staff in the past several months. We are working on a plan for transition, and are lucky to have Kelly staying in the classroom to make this change a little more smooth.
