Another school year has begun!

Students and Parents,

It is hard to imagine that we have been in school for almost six weeks now! Hope that everyone is working hard to turn in class work and checking on grades. Remember to login into Skyward or download the Skyward app for free to your phones. Also, keep in mind that at the nine weeks, grades will post to your high school transcript for colleges, employers, and military recruiters to see. In addition, reach out to your teachers now especially if you are behind so you can get caught up and get that credit for the class. Earning credits = graduating on time!

Farmer Focus is back!

Parents, please join us for our first Farmer Focus parent presentation on Friday morning October 7th from 8:30-10:00 a.m. with Jana Jansson from Reflections Lifestyle on substance abuse with emphasis on vaping. Early morning snacks and beverages will be available. See you then!

How do I get financial aid and scholarships?

October 1st...

To apply for financial aid, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will need to be completed. The application opens on October 1st and the deadline is March 2nd . Please visit the FAFSA website, FAFSA to apply.

You can now file for your FAFSA. Both the student and one parent need to apply. If you haven’t already, please visit the FAFSA website, FSA ID, to apply for a FSA ID. Your FSA ID can be used each year to electronically apply for federal student aid and to access your Federal Student Aid records online.

Lewisville High School is hosting a FAFSA Saturday workshop for all interested in attending. The goal is to help you with completing your FAFSA application.

Prior to attending, please create your Student FSA ID. An absolute MUST step in order to begin your FAFSA Application. How do I create an account (FSA ID username and password?)

FAFSA Workshop

Post-secondary Education within the Hispanic Community

CAFÉ CON LECHE is hosting an event Saturday, November 6th in the morning to help first-generation students understand the importance of post-secondary education within the Hispanic Community.

Learning how to pay for college and understanding the application process can often be confusing and overwhelming. Café empowers Hispanic families and communities with specific demographic, educational and economic tools to achieve their dreams for a better future.

Saturday, Nov. 12th, at Lewisville High School, Café con leche will be hosting a workshop to help families in this process. The workshop will have two sessions, admissions and financial aid. Both sessions will be held in both Spanish and English. All grade levels are welcome and appreciated. So, come all freshmen, sophomores, juniors and or seniors.

We will have representatives from Café con leche, MSU and Lewisville High School who will answer the questions the families may have.

Go.LISD Email Account...

Check your student email! Most times this the quickest and easiest way to get scholarship information out to students. Applying for scholarships is about grit and determination. The time will be well spent when you are award the scholarship. No scholarship is too small. In the end they all add up.

Work-Study Programs...

Work-Study is a need-based form of Financial Aid that you earn through on or off-campus employment and receive in the form of a paycheck. The intent of the Work-Study Program is to encourage part-time employment and reduce the amount of loan debt incurred while attending college. Work-Study does so by paying a portion of your salary thus making it more advantageous for an employer to hire you. Lastly, any earnings made under work-study do not count against your aid eligibility when filling out the next year’s FAFSA or California Dream Act application.

As Mentioned Above in Senior Check List...

College and Trade/Technical School Lunch Visits

Students at LHS have the opportunity to visit with college and career/vocational school representatives during lunch visits, college fairs, and information sessions held throughout the metroplex. Take time to visit these colleges; you may discover that you are better suited for a certain type of school setting after visiting with the college reps. Explore all types - small, large, public, private. Then, make a decision based on a well-informed exploration of all types of colleges and universities.

Lunch Visits: College representatives are available in the cafeteria or the College and Career Center (F207) during block lunch. Please click on our College information Newsletter to see who is coming to LHS this month.

We will be hosting a College Fair for Trade/Technical Schools on Wednesday, November 2nd from 11:30-1:30 p.m. at LHS.

Get Involved!

We encourage all students to get involved at LHS! Studies show the more involved you are in school, the more successful your high school experience will be. Make new friends and join today!
