Thompson Friday Forecast
November 4, 2022
From the Principal...Steve Morrill
Next Friday is Veterans Day.
Thompson will be hosting an in-person assembly for Veterans “connected” to the Thompson Community, their families, and our 8th grade students. We are pleased that Mayor Vitek will be able to join us for this event.
Many of our students participated in the Patriot’s Pen essay contest. This year’s theme was “My Pledge To Our Veterans.” Several students will be reading their essays at the assembly. Kudos to all of our students who wrote essays focused on Veterans.
Next Friday will also bring the opportunity for intentional conversations with all students about the importance of this day.
As a former social studies teacher, Veterans Day makes me think of those who have given so much for our country’s success. I encourage your child to take the time to learn from Veterans who are relatives, friends, and/or neighbors. These Veterans not only served our country, but helped to shape history and other countries worldwide. Speaking to a Veteran can provide a great perspective for our impressionable students.
Outdoor Clothing
As the weather changes and the temperature drops it is important that students come to school properly dressed for the elements. Hats, gloves, and jackets will be necessary for students waiting outside before and after school, as well as going outside when the weather permits during Physical Education Classes. PM Bus dismissal will be held inside if the temperature or the wind chill is significantly low.
Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 2:00 am. On Saturday night, make sure to set your clocks back one hour (i.e., gaining one hour) to “fall back.”
Have a great weekend~
Steve
The Thompson PTO Spirit Wear store is open! New items are available. Order by November 15th; delivery before Winter Break.
Donations for the TMS Health Office
On occasion, students come to the Health Office and need more than an ice pack or a band-aide. While we keep a limited supply on hand, we do need to replenish these items periodically. We would appreciate your donations. Please drop them off in the main office through Door 1.
Thank you for your generosity!
Builders Club Community Service Event
Builders Club is volunteering at the Northern Illinois Food Bank on November 17 from 5:30-7:30 pm. We need at least ten students each with a parent, guardian, or older sibling, to volunteer with us. This is a great opportunity for parents and students to spend time with one another while at the same time serving the community. The October volunteer group did an amazing job! Our Thompson volunteer group packed 6,977 pounds of food providing 5,814 meals for hungry neighbors in Northern Illinois!
If your student along with a parent or older sibling are able to volunteer, please email david.simone@d303.org that you will be attending by Thursday, November 10. Please include in your response the following: 1) Names of each person volunteering and 2) Email address. Please click here for more information.
The food bank greatly appreciates your being able to spend a few hours supporting our hungry neighbors in Northern Illinois. If you have volunteered before, you know that this is a rewarding experience. If you have not had this experience before, we believe you will discover that it is a rewarding experience, too.
Check out the Daily Announcements and join in the fun activities happening at TMS.
