Outdoor Activities
Outdoor activities that are enjoyed by many people in the High Plains are mountain climbing, white water rafting, wilderness first aid, rescue training, taking classes in rafting and mountaineering.
Site Seeing
Palo Duro Canyon is one of the most visited places in the High Plains. The most common places to visit are the Big Cross, Historic Ritz Theatre, Playa Lakes, and the Prairie Dog towns.
National Parks
National Parks that are located in the High Plains region are the Sequoia National Park, Banff National Park, Big Bend National Park, Glacier National Park, and the Bison Range National Park.
Historical Places
Museums are the most visited historical places in the High Plains region. Most common is the White Deer Land Museum located in Pampa Texas, XIT Ranch Museum in Dalhart Texas, and Carson County Square House Museum in Panhandle Texas.
State Parks
The most popular state park in the High Plains is the Caprock Canyon State Park.
Historical Information
The High Plains are located in South Eastern Wyoming, South Western South Dakota, Western Nebraska, Eastern Colorado, Western Kansas, Eastern New Mexico, Western Oklahoma, and South of the Texas Panhandle. From East to West the High Plains range in elevation from around 1,160 feet to over 7,800 feet.
