GJM Family Connection
January 2023
Welcome BACK and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
January is a busy Month for GJM. We will have benchmarks this month. We run our benchmarks like we do STAAR. Our students will have their accommodations if they need them. Please make sure your student is here each day of benchmark January 24-27. Every student on our campus will be testing each day.
Attendance is super important. Please make sure your child is here EVERY day and ON TIME each day. This helps set your child up for success. To help your student be here each day and on time here are a few tips:
• Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
• Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
• Keep your child healthy
• Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family
member, a neighbor or another parent.
• Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
Beautiful minds inspire others.

Welcome to 2023! Happy New Year GJM family! This month GJM is excited to be participating once again in The Great Kindness Challenge. The Great Kindness Challenge is one school week, January 23-27, devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible. GJM students have participated in The Great Kindness Challenge for the past three years. We believe in empowering our students to create a culture of Kindness. Need some tips? Take a look below for some ideas to encourage your student(s) to complete. Try some yourself, the best form of leadership is modeling, take this opportunity to show your student kindness can happen ANYWHERE!
1. Take a treat to your local firefighter or police officers.
2. Write a thank you note to your mail carrier.
3. Invent a Kind handshake with a family member.
4. Smile at 25 people.
5. Hug your sibling or a family member
6. Donate clothes, toys or books to someone in need or a charity.
7. Make and display a thank you sign for an essential worker.
8. Pick up 10 pieces of trash in your neighborhood.

Happy New Year GJM Families!
While attendance is essential, we ask you to help us limit the spread of illness-causing germs by monitoring your child at home to ensure they are well enough to attend school. If your student has been diagnosed with an illness, please inform the school nurse. Your information will be held confidential, and it may assist us in monitoring illness outbreaks and supporting students in families where there is someone who is immunocompromised.
As a reminder, the following practices can help make a difference in keeping our school
community well this season.
* Practice consistent hand hygiene
* Frequent sanitizing of commonly used surfaces
* Be sure to get adequate sleep each night
* Stay home when sick
* Avoid sharing foods/drinks with others
* Cover coughs and sneezes
* Keep current with annual wellness exams, immunizations, and dental cleanings
* Eat a well-balanced diet including colorful fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein
* Avoid or limit processed fast foods, junk food, and candy
