Welcome to AMHS
2021-2022 School Year!
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome Back to the 2021-2022 school year! I hope that you have had the opportunity to take some time to relax and enjoy your summer vacation. I am excited to welcome you back to the building for face-to-face instruction beginning Monday, August 2, 2021. This year the AMHS faculty and staff plan to continue to cultivate a spirit of excellence among our students and engage them in deep teaching and learning that will improve student performance and positively impact their personal development.
This year’s theme is “EXCELLENCE is not an act, but a HABIT.” For the AMHS students, this means that our students must consistently put forth their best efforts in everything that they do. Our goal is to provide opportunities for our students to excel in academics, athletics, as well as clubs and organizations in order to become positive, contributing members of our school community.
Again, welcome back and we look forward to seeing you this Thursday, July 29th for our 2021-2022 Open House!!!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Tanya Mason | Princial
Important School Information
Instruction
Arabia Mountain High School operates on a traditional 7-period schedule. All classes, with the exception of mathematics courses, are taught at the accelerated level. Therefore, it is imperative that our students develop strong time management and study skills. Students should engage in daily study outside of the time spent on homework to avoid cramming for summative assessments.

Attendance
As we begin our school year, we must remember that daily attendance will be an integral part of your child's success at AMHS. Students are expected to attend all live class sessions (either synchronously or asynchronously) to ensure that they receive explicit/direct instruction.
Upon returning to the traditional setting, our school hours are from 8:00 am-3:20 pm. We ask parents to drop off their child no earlier than 7:05 am. Students will need to enter the building at the gym entrance. All students should be at school no later than 7:45 am to ensure that they get to class on time. Students arriving after 8:00 am will need to report to the attendance office to receive a tardy pass. If a student reports after 8:15 am, a parent will need to check their child in at the attendance office.
Dress Code
Students enrolled in physical education courses will be required to wear an AMHS P.E. uniform. P.E. uniforms will be available for purchase through the AMHS Health & P.E. Department.
Discipline
Arabia Mountain functions as a safe and orderly environment. We have high academic and behavior expectations for our students; therefore, they are held accountable for their actions and choices. Our administrative staff as well as our faculty are committed to being proactive in resolving issues to ensure that your child is receiving the best education we have to offer.
Discipline infractions can occur both in the virtual and face-to-face settings. Please encourage your child to adhere to the DCSD Code of Conduct and to make good decisions daily.
Transportation
Parents are responsible for their student's transportation to and from school. Students can be dropped off at school or can ride one of five shuttles to school. The five shuttle locations are
1) Cedar Grove High School
2) Lithonia High School
3) Martin Luther King, Jr. High School
4) Memorial Drive
5) Stephenson High School
Upperclassmen are allowed to drive to school. Students who drive to school must purchase a parking decal to park on campus. The student parking lot will be located on the gym side of the building. (Click here for the 21-22 Satellite Bus Schedule).
Schedule Change
Schedule changes will be honored for the following reasons:
1) Missing a required course to graduate
2) Level change request
3) Completed the course during summer school.
Schedule changes based on teacher preference will not be honored. (Scan the QR code or Click here to access the Schedule Change form).
