Fleming Flyer-Off Campus Edition

May 31th, 2020

A Note from Ms. Aldrich

Wow! What a very hot week! Funny how we went from winter to summer in a two week span! I hope you've all had time to get out doors, and enjoy the summer weather!

My family has been enjoying Indian Brook from hiking, trying to catch frogs, fishing, and we even jumped in the water this week! We also have enjoyed the geese families swimming around with all their new little ones. It's so cute! I've attached a couple of pictures for you to enjoy! I also added couple from a Student in Mrs. Hopper's class, Dominique, and from Ms. Petzold as well!

Not going to lie, It's been tough to keep my kiddos focused on distance learning at this time of year. Just think, only a couple of weeks left! We have some important information regarding the end of the year in this weeks Fleming Flyer, so please make sure to take time to read for more detailed information.

Internet Safety for Families

Learning at home

We recognize that staying safe online is something many parents and carers are concerned about and that privacy and protecting young people should be a priority.

As your children have been interacting more online for learning, playing and socializing, the need to set expectations about online behavior is even greater than usual — regardless of their comfort level or proficiency with technology. This is especially important as many students will have continued internet interactions over the summer with each other. What a great time to have a conversation with them to ensure they know they have reporting pathways if something negative happens online. Check out Unicef's "How to keep your child Safe While Stuck at Home".

In the Wellness Section of your child Distance Learning Template next week, there will be an assignment on digital safety and citizenship. Please encourage your child to complete this assignment and survey, and let us know if you have any questions or want to have your child discuss this topic further with their School Counselor during an online session.

(Editor’s note: this final edition is written by guest contributor, Finn the Falcon)

Students: this one is for you.

I’ve missed you all. I’ve been getting out quite a bit and checking up on you. I know, you never see me; that’s because I am wearing my mask. But here’s what I’ve observed:

You are doing your work. You are reading, Zearning, reading articles, writing responses, calculating area and volume, singing songs, creating art, getting outside, reading books, listening to stories...it goes on and on.

You are Zooming!! Whoever thought that would be our most frequently used verb? Your teachers and classmates are so glad to see you.

You are keeping in touch with friends and family. It means the world to them.

In short, you are living up to all of our Fleming fundamentals: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. Fourth graders: I can’t wait to see you again so we can earn eggs together! Fifth graders: remember our fundamentals as you head to middle school. You have done an awesome job showing the fourth grade and the staff how it’s done.

You are an amazing group of students. I am proud to know each of you, and I hope you will carry a little bit of me with you as you head off for the summer. Relax, rest up and have fun this summer. Go Falcons!

The distance learning lessons and activities assigned to students makes it necessary for each student to have technology resources and internet access. Please contact Principal Ryan if your student does not have a computer or have a way to access learning online via the internet. We are also concerned for families and students with food insecurity challenges. Hunger is a basic need that must be met before the engagement of learning. How might we help?

Buildings and Grounds Covid-19 Safety considerations have caused us to make our school playground equipment off limits. The playground is taped off and closed for use until access is reestablished following pandemic safety protocols.
