A Message from the Administration
Theme Week at WCS
For over a decade the Williston Central School community has come together the week before February vacation to celebrate, create, learn and take part in new experiences. This much anticipated annual event, called Theme Week, is sponsored by the Essential Arts and World Language teachers. Each year these teachers and other staff members create workshops developed around a unifying theme. This year’s theme is the Winter Olympic Games.
This week provides an opportunity for students to connect with one another outside of the regular classroom routine and outside of their regular peer groups. It also provides an opportunity for students to discover new connections with adults and enrich those connections that have already been started. This year, sixteen workshops were offered, ranging from Olympic Opening Ceremonies Dance, Olympic Outdoor Games, Olympic Cupcake baking, Peace Flag creation, Olympic Trivia contest and much more. Students were given the opportunity to choose two workshops to participate in throughout the week. As a break in the normal school routine, the students attend these workshops during their Essential Arts and World Language classes.
The week culminates with a celebration of the creativity that has ensued throughout the week. Photos and videos are shared, Olympic Cupcakes are sampled, Opening Ceremony dances are performed. A chain of Olympic rings with the names of every member in our school community will be wrapped around the hallways reminding us of our connectedness as a learning community. As a final celebration on Friday, and probably the most unifying event of the week, is a Student-Faculty basketball game. No matter the score at the final buzzer, we as a whole, come away as winners.
We are extremely appreciative of the Essential Arts and World Language teachers, as well as many other adults, who offer workshops and their expertise during Theme Week. Watch for photos on our social media accounts and a link for a live stream of the Student-Faculty basketball game.
