WEEKLY ARTICLE
greeting students
Simply greeting students at the door has been proven to increase student attention to learning (on-task behavior) and it establishes teacher rapport with students. It's simple and effective and worth the little extra effort.
STEAM WEEK
STEAM Week is coming and we have a great challenge this year. STEAM Week is October 22nd-26th and is a celebration of STEAM across Framingham schools, Pre K-12. All schools are organizing activities, events, projects and/or other ways to celebrate STEAM education in our schools. Students across the district will have the opportunity to engage in experiences that challenge them and get them excited about learning.
Dunning students will use their imagination and creativity to design a desktop-sized arcade game for their classmates to play. The challenge is inspired by the short film, ”Caine’s Arcade” about a child who used the resources around him to build something amazing. Students will be working within their classrooms to design their games from cardboard, recycled materials and their imaginations. All students will create a planning sheet with a list of their needed materials.
Each child will be asked to bring ONE paper shopping bag filled with the materials to build his or her own planned game. Bags of materials are due on Wednesday, October 24th. All materials must fit within the bag and bags may not be brought in before Wednesday, October 24th. A letter will be going home to parents this week. We will have bags of materials for students that do not bring in a bag of their own.
Please plan on having your class watch Cain's Arcade during your Genius Hour.
On Monday, October 22, we will be visited by iRobot. They will be doing two presentations:
- Grades K-2: 9:15 - 10:00
- Grades 3-5: 10:15 - 11:00
On Friday, October 26th, our students will come together in a half-day of creativity and imagination to build and play their games. Please feel free to schedule it as you see fit

BAS
BAS Information
Every student needs an instructional BAS score in X2.
If you happen to also find a student’s independent score, please enter that in X2 as well.
If a student moves from independent to hard (e.g. Level C is independent but Level D is hard), please put the independent level, accuracy, and comprehension score in both the independent and instructional columns.
BAS: FIlling Out the Folders
We will be completing the front and inside of the BAS folders for each student as well as using them to store literacy assessments.
Use this link for directions on how to fill out the BAS folders for each student.
Filling out the BAS folder will help teachers transition students’ reading information to next year’s teacher.
The chart will also allow us to track a student’s growth over time.
The folders are used across the district so they are also helpful if students move to or from another school.
*If student’s data hasn’t been recorded on the folder up until now, you only need to start by recording this year’s data on the folder.
