Who is Gandhi? Is he a "Tragic" Hero?

Gandhi was the independence leader in India to break off from Britain. Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. He wanted his movements to always be peaceful and show the British that they're not savage animals. He cared for everyone around him and believe peaceful protests were the only ways to save them. A man who peacefully spoke of independence and peace for his people only sealed the demise of himself.

What is a Tragic Hero?

  • A person who has greatness and shows nobility.
  • A person who is not perfect, has flaws, and is elevated higher in society.
  • The downfall of this person is usually his or her fault and is caused by there tragic flaw.
  • They don't deserve to die.
  • The Hero teaches us audience an important lesson.
  • Can leave us in a state of sadness and depression.

How is Gandhi a Tragic Hero?

From all the peaceful protests there were a lot of supporters, but there were still many people who didn't agree and hated him. These people included the British and Indian followers. From this, it caused a lot of tension between the two groups; Gandhi's followers and British followers. Gandhi was very persistent with his protest, he went all around country spreading his ideas. He even went to Great Britain to spread ideas. His persistence led to his Downfall.
Gandhi even had supporters in Great Britain!

This man didn't deserve to die.

Mahatma Gandhi was always a peaceful man at heart. He only wanted to see his people happy and free from British obligation. He never believed in violence and didn't want to hurt anyone. Gandhi was selfless and put others before him. He wanted share his ideas to persuade the British to leave and put India at peace.
Gandhi had no feelings of violence towards anyone!

A state of depression sweeps across the world.

Gandhi, a man who is beloved by millions across the world. People are inspired and amazed at what he has accomplished. When Gandhi died, shock and emotional depression spread across the world. So many people looked up to him as a role model and he was well respected.

Gandhi shows us an important life lesson.

Gandhi teaches us the important life lesson of Forgiving and letting go.He shows us that fighting evil with evil doesn't help anyone or solve anything. If you don't forgive and move on from the past, the past will control you. He is showing us not to focus on the the struggles of the past, but to focus on the potential of the future. Don't let fear and doubt control your life.
