Westfield Wildcat Weekly
News from Westfield Elementary School: January 26, 2020
Thank you, Kindergarten families, for coming out to celebrate 100's Day with us!!
A note from Principal Hewick
Hello Westfield Family~
Hope the weekend is going well!
In the coming weeks, our school’s social worker, Mrs. Kazonovitz, will be visiting all classrooms for the annual Erin’s Law presentation. The goal of this presentation is to increase awareness of crimes against children and help children feel empowered to report problems.
These presentations will focus on keeping our bodies safe and how others should respect your personal space. Students will practice saying ‘no’ to anyone who is not respecting their body, and how to report the incident. Students will be asked who are the trusted adults in their lives that they could talk to if they felt someone was making inappropriate comments or physical touching. Younger students will hear the book “Your Body Belongs to You” and discuss its meaning.
The social worker presents on Erin’s Law minimally one time during each school year. Guardians have the option to withdraw a student from a unit of instruction by sending written notice to me, shewick@ccsd89.org.
Illinois school districts are required to provide age-appropriate Erin’s Law lessons to all students from preschool to eighth grade. If you have any questions about the content of the presentation, please don’t hesitate to contact Westfield's social worker, Kristin Kazonovitz, kkazonovitz@ccsd89.org.
