Welcome to Our New Teachers!

Mrs. Liles - 6th Grade ELA

Mrs. has 12 years of teaching experience. She taught 6th and 7th grade language arts and social studies in Kentucky, and she taught 5th grade social studies and 6th grade language arts and social studies in York, SC. She earned her BS in Middle Grades Education from Berry College, a MA.ed in Literacy from Bellarmine University, and another MA.ed in School Improvement with an emphasis in literacy from Georgetown College. Her husband Chris is the Associate Pastor at First Baptist Anderson, and they have two daughters, Tessa and Addie. For fun, Mrs. Liles enjoys reading, watching movies, taking walks with her daughters, and crocheting.

Miss Moules - 6-8th Grade Special Education

Miss Moules has 3 years of special education experience. Before Southwood Academy, she was in Anderson 1 teaching K-3rd grade mild intellectual disabilities. Miss Moules was born and raised in Anderson, SC and graduated from TLH. For her first year-and-a-half of college, she attended the University of South Carolina. She graduated from Anderson University in 2018. She is currently attending Winthrop University and will graduate this December with a MEd in Special Education Intervention. She has a younger sister and two older brothers. She have two labs, Sadie and Remmy, who are learning to hunt with her! In her free time, Miss Moules enjoys hunting, fishing, archery, playing guitar, shopping, and cuddling with her pups.

Keri Small - Middle School Theatre

Mrs. Small has been in education for 16 years. She has taught at McCants Middle School, Calhoun Academy of the Arts, and she is excited to be returning to Southwood Academy of the Arts. She has taught theatre, a year of First Grade, and a half a year of Kindergarten. She is from Anderson! She and her husband Grant have 4 fabulous children, Jean Marie, Wild, Mac, and Dasch. She attended Winthrop University for my undergraduate degree, Francis Marion University for add on certification, and Lesley University for her Master's degree. When she is not busy at school, she loves to spend time with her family in the pool or at the beach. She loves going to Broadway shows and visiting New York City. She also enjoys reading all types of books and watching Stranger Things.

Mr. Cobb - Digital Integration Specialist

This is Mr. Cobb's 7th year in education. Over the years in Anderson 2, he taught grades 2-6 all subject areas, including theater. He is from Pendleton, SC and graduated from Pendleton High School in 2010. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Anderson University. He also has a GT endorsement from Charleston Southern University and a Master's degree in School Leadership from Furman. He married his beautiful wife Kensley just 3 months ago. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to concerts, white water rafting, fishing, collecting crazy socks, consuming copious amounts of Chick-fil-a and Mexican food, and a good Clemson Tiger football game. GO TIGERS!!! He is also the children's pastor at Redemption Point Church in Simpsonville.

PE Schedule

Students have PE with Mr. Scarborough one day a week during related arts. Related arts for 8th grade is 1st block, for 7th grade is 2nd block, and for 6th grade is 4th block. For example, Mrs. Kay's dance students have PE on Fridays.

Fall MAP Testing

Fall MAP tests will be September 14th -18th. Students will need to bring fully charged Chromebooks every day of MAP testing. MAP tests will be taken in math and ELA classes. The schedule for testing is below.

Early Dismissal / Appointment Policies

Procedure change for any dismissal during the school day due to COVID19 precautions:
    • When you arrive at school, please call the office: 864-260-5205 to let us know you are here to pick up a student for dismissal.
    • Make sure to have your license ready and press the buzzer for entrance.
    • Once the door is unlocked, be prepared to show your license through the window while you will remain in the foyer. Please DO NOT enter the office area.
    • We will have a sign-out sheet in the foyer. Please know that we will get your student to you as quickly as we can.

Bus Information

Students will not be allowed to ride the bus with friends or neighbors unless that is going to be their permanent stop. If your student needs to ride the bus and have a stop created, please fill out this form.

Cafeteria News

As of now, all students will be able to receive breakfast and lunch at no cost through December 31, 2020. If you have already made a payment, it will be transferred to the spring.

The cafeteria staff want to remind all teachers and students to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer BEFORE eating.

News from Nurse Rosa

COVID-19: Please read the form below from DHEC. Do not send your child to school if they are experiencing any the following(please inform the office by email of the absence and reason):
    • Fever
    • Shortness of Breath
    • Persistent Cough
    • Loss of smell or taste
    • Sore throat
    • Muscle aches/body aches
    • Chills
    • If we determine that your child is sick and needs to go home, please make every effort to pick them up within the hour

TDAP: All students are reminded that they must have their Tdap vaccination BEFORE starting 7th grade! Now is the time to schedule an appointment for your 6th grade student. Please submit documentation to Nurse Rosa after immunization.

Media Center News

Yes, the Media Center is open! ELA classes are receiving an orientation to the new policies. Mrs. Spencer is cleaning every table in between classes and following the CDC & SC Department of Education's guidelines for libraries for the safety of all students and staff. If you have questions about the media center policies, email Mrs. Spencer.

Lost Book Problem

Mrs. Spencer and other media specialists need your help! If you are a 6th grade student and you still have books from your elementary school, please turn them in to Mrs. Spencer in the Media Center. She will return them for you. If you are a 7th or 8th grade student and have books from last year at home, please return them as soon as possible! Our media center is missing 160 great books from its shelves. You don't have to pay for lost items if they are returned!
