Religion in The Southern Colonies
Culture in The Sotuhern Colonies
In the Southern colonies, the culture was extremely different from the way of life today. Farming was an important factor due to the fertile land. Education was not anywhere near the same as it is today. Children in the Southern Colonies were taught manners, reading, writing and grammar. Children were homeschooled until the age of 13. At that time, they were sent off to college, but that depended on their profession they wanted to be involved in. On the opposite side of this, there were few Africans, whether enslaved or free. In 1665, fewer than 500 Africans have been moved into the colony. The slaves worked in fields together and did not go to school, or learn anything.
