Election Day 2020
Important Voting Information
Election Day is this coming Tuesday, November 3rd! We know that many of our members have already taken advantage of the opportunity for early voting in South Carolina, but if you haven't voted, PLEASE make sure that you exercise your teacher voice in this election. For those that still need to vote, here are some key resources:
- Need information on the candidates? Check out the PSTA Election Resource Center for information about candidates for the General Assembly.
- Still have an absentee ballot? If you requested an absentee ballot but have not already mailed it in, please do not put your ballot in the mail at this point as there is a chance it will not be received on time. Instead, you can drop off your absentee ballot at your county voter registration office. These ballots must be dropped off no later than 7 PM on November 3rd.
- Planning to vote in-person on November 3rd? Make sure to check your polling location before you head out to vote on the 3rd. To do so, go to this website and enter your information. Please don't assume that your polling location is the same as it was in a prior election- they sometimes change! Also, when you go to vote, make sure you have a government-issued photo ID. You will not be allowed to vote without a photo ID. Finally, note that polls will be open at all polling locations from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. To vote, you MUST be in the line by 7:00 PM. If you are in line by that time, you must be afforded the right to vote.
End of Course Exams
This week, Superintendent Spearman announced a one-year suspension of the requirement to count student scores on high school End of Course exams as 20% of a student's final grade in a course. For more on this action, see the statement PSTA released earlier this week. PSTA has called on all districts to adopt this waiver flexibility. In addition, the state's Education Oversight Committee has announced their recommendation for a suspension of school report card ratings for 2020-2021. This means that End of Course exam results would still be included on a school's report card, but those scores would NOT be used to calculate an overall summative rating for the school.
