Holy Cross Catholic School guides each student in developing academic, emotional and physical excellence while spreading the Gospel message as Jesus did, since 1868.

“Sadness is looking at ourselves, happiness is looking towards God.” - Bl. Carlo Acutis

We Are All Saints In The Making!

Blessed Carlo Acutis was a holy boy who infused the ordinary aspects of life with extraordinary love for God.

During his 15 years on earth, he lived as a regular young person, going to school, playing soccer, eating at the pizzeria with his peers — though somehow making all of these activities a lived Gospel.

In the regularity of his life, he “[dedicated] his life, moment by moment, to the highest goal to which all men are called: eternal bliss with God.”

Among typical teen interests like video games, computer programming, and making home movies with his cats and dogs, he also loved the Eucharist. In fact, he loved the Eucharist in a most profound way, never missing an opportunity to go to Mass or Adoration. This love for the Eucharist, and the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, became the driving source of his sanctity — a “home base” for him to enter the presence of God and further radiate it to others.

The internet, to Carlo, was also a means of evangelization — it was another space in which he was also able to transmit God. Using his computer skills, Carlo designed an online Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition that is now translated into 17 languages and has been displayed across the world!

Carlo Acutis is a model for all youth today. His life shows young people that sanctity is possible, and indeed nearer than they might imagine! Carlo’s example offers a roadmap to young people wondering how they can live holy lives in this day and age. What’s more, the beatification of this first millennial saint shows us that God is not done making saints yet; he reminds us all, young and old alike, that the Lord makes saints in every age and generation!

Mr. Schaets is married to his beautiful wife, Micki and have two grown daughters and sons-in-law as well as three grandchildren, Marley, Miles and Lennon. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, hunting, fishing and playing guitar. Prior to working at Holy Cross, Mr. Schaetz worked at Georgia Pacific for 31 years and retired in 2020.

Ms. Sophia Schauer - PreSchool Aide (T/Th)

Hi! My name is Sophia Schauer. I am a graduate of Holy Cross School and Notre Dame Academy. I am currently a student at NWTC in the Early Childhood Education program. After graduation, I hope to work as a preschool teacher. When I am not working or attending classes, I enjoy drinking coffee and spending time with my family and friends.

HCCS Food Service is bringing back, a la carte beginning Monday, November 7th!

What is it? - A la Carte is where Middle School Students (we define this as grades 5-8), can purchase additional snack items with their lunch if they so choose. The additional snack items are all "Smart Snack Compliant," meaning they meet specific nutrition requirements set forth by the DPI.

The A La Carte Items we will sell/make available for the students are the following:

  • Fruit - $0.50
  • Crackers (Cheez-Its, Goldfish Crackers, Bug Bites, etc.) - $0.60
  • Cereal Bowls, Cereal Bars, and Other Snacks (Chewy Granola Bars, Pop Tarts, etc.) - $0.85
  • Fruit Snacks and Chips - $1.00
  • Cookies - $1.25

A few other notes on A La Carte:

  • Any student can participate, but all students are charged the amounts above, regardless what their charge for lunch is. (I.e. - Free, Reduced, and Paid status for lunch is irrelevant for A La Carte. All are charged the same in A La Carte).
  • If a student has a negative balance they will not be able to purchase a la carte.
  • If a parent does not want their student(s) participating in a la carte, they can let food service know, and we have a way to mark it in our system, not allowing a la carte purchases for these student(s).

Do you have any of these items at home that could help?
