A financial presentation was given by the PSD Financial Advisory team consisting of John Vignone - Director of Business Administration, Scott Shearer - PSD Financial Advisor, Public Financial Management (PFM) , Ken Philips - RBC Wealth Management USA and Jens Damgaard - Bond Counsel, Rhoads & Sinon, LLP. They explained the next phase of borrowing as part of a three year capital improvement campaign. Blake Shuttle Transfer of Ownership
The retirement of teacher Bob Boehmer, who oversaw the Blake Shuttle program, and the dissolving of the NASA space shuttle program forced a change to Parkland’s curriculum and the Blake is no longer being used as a teaching tool in the district. However, the District really wanted it to remain in the Lehigh Valley and to be on display for the entire community to enjoy. The District, therefore, was pleased to announce that the Lehigh Valley Airport Authority will become the new owners. The Airport Authority has plans to keep it on display at a facility on Postal Rd. as a tourist attraction. LVIA will give the district $1 for the shuttle. In return, Parkland students, staff and board members can continue to visit it for free. The Patch wrote an article about this which can be viewed here.
Mr. Bold proudly reported on wonderful things that are happening at the IU and was happy to invite the student presenters to the board meeting to recap their anti-bullying video. Mr. Kennedy commented that he enjoyed the student presentation and also mentioned that he enjoyed attending both senior citizen dinners this month. He enjoyed talking with senior citizens and seeing students and staff help serve the meals. Mrs. Marcus echoed the sentiments. Student Representative Michael Falco commented that he was glad to see the Blake Shuttle going somewhere that the entire community can enjoy it since he fondly remembers field trips to the Blake when he was in elementary school. Mr. Bold mentioned the pride he feels when seeing so many students perform in winter concerts. Ms. Adams also stated that she has had a fantastic month attending so many wonderful events. Mr. Sniscack said that the IU presentation gives us reason to pause and it was heartwarming to see the enthusiastic students. Mrs. Marcus thanked everyone for a safe and happy end to the calendar year and wished everyone continued success for a healthy and happy new year.
