EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to this week's Educator of the Week, Ms. Amy Madden. Ms. Madden is our amazing Districtwide Elementary Health Teacher and she positively impacts students in all five elementary schools.
Since joining the District in the fall of 2021, Ms. Madden has been a leader in promoting the health curriculum for our elementary students in grades 2-5. She brings excitement and fun to the classroom and she is always there to support her students as she helps them adopt healthy and responsible attitudes and behaviors.
Ms. Madden also works diligently to promote the social emotional wellbeing of each of her students and to help on that front, she enlists the help of Gianna, her trained Assistance Dog. Gianna is a big favorite of the students and staff.
Principal MacNeil (DWS) put it best when she noted, "Ms. Madden makes wonderful connections with the students and teachers she works with. Her calm demeanor is one many children are drawn to. I sometimes wonder if the kids enjoy her more than Gianna."
Our elementary students are so lucky to have Ms. Madden teaching health and we are thrilled to have her on our team. Congratulations Ms. Madden!!
GO GOLD RECAP
Dear Marshfield,
The MHS Gold Ribbon Club would like to extend a HUGE thank you for your help with Go Gold Week. Thanks to you and your students, we have raised a grand total of $8389.64! The club has been amazed (but not surprised) by the generosity of the whole district.
Over the course of the month, the club members completed over 65 hours of volunteer work to help raise this money. We also had help from every school collecting money to "fill the gold boot", and from MHS fall sports teams representing the cause by wearing gold at their home games and donating to the fund. Many of you helped with setup, donations, purchases, and cheering on our club throughout a very busy month. Many local businesses also donated raffle prizes to the cause. In true Marshfield style, it was a team effort!
Funds will be donated to South Shore Action for Hope, a local charity that fundraises for pediatric cancer research during the month of September.
If you have any pictures from Go Gold Week, we'd love for you to send them our way!
Thank you,
The MHS Gold Ribbon Club
Rhian Hill & Tammy Kantarowski, club advisors
Erin Timlin, our Super September Support
Anna Sullivan, Gabby Reardon, Ari Altobello & Maegan Condon, club officers
MARSHFIELD EDUCATION FOUNDATION IMPACT REPORT
With just three main fundraising events; the St. Patrick's Day 5K, Circus Smirkus and the Fall Giving Campaign, this amazing group of volunteers have helped support 204 grants that have had a direct impact on close to 8,000 students.
We can never thank the MEF enough for what they do for our teachers and students and we just wanted to share some of the impact they have had on our district. The link below tells you about their story and how they have helped make us a better school district. #WeRMarshfield
HOMEWORK FREE VETERANS DAY WEEKEND
While we are a just over a month away, I wanted to let you know that once again, in honor of Veterans Day, the Marshfield Public Schools will be Homework Free over the Veterans Day weekend.
We started this tradition eight years ago and going “homework free”, in conjunction with Veterans Day has been greatly appreciated by students and staff, our families and, most importantly, our Veterans.
The district continues to focus attention on the social-emotional well-being of our students and staff, and by adjusting their homework schedule for Veterans Day, so that nothing is assigned over the Veterans Day weekend, we are making an impact on our educational stakeholders. Annually, the issue of homework is one that has generated discussion across the region and it has been reported to teachers and administrators that schedules and stress levels tend to grow as the year progresses. We hope that these homework free nights can help relieve some of that stress.
More importantly, each year we have used this time away from homework to allow our students and staff, and their families, to focus on the importance of recognizing Veterans Day. In lieu of homework, it is our hope that members of our school community, as they have done each year, will find the time on Veterans Day (or over the weekend) to thank a Veteran they may know for their service to our country. The person they reach out to could be a relative, a neighbor or a friend.
In addition, if members of our school community can attend the Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony on November 11th at Veterans Memorial Park, I know that the dedicated group of men and women, who have given so much to our country would greatly appreciate the gesture. As a district, we like to say “WeRMarshfield” and this simple gesture is just one more example of our community coming together to honor some very special people.
