Changes to your 403b and 457 Deferred Compensation Plans
On June 24, you received an email from Consolidated Benefits Office announcing significant enhancements to current 457 Deferred Compensation and 403(B) Tax Sheltered Annuity Plans. A screen shot of that email is below. Please review your emails and begin to consider what your next steps will be in regards to the actions you can take with your funds.
Be on the lookout for more information coming from Benefits office. We will be scheduling time with VOYA Financial to meet with teachers. VOYA is the only company that you can use IF you choose to move your 403 B to their company and have payroll deductions. You can continue with your current provider, if you choose to do so, but it will not be deducted from your paycheck because the VBCPS contract for tax shelter accounts is with VOYA.
It's important to start thinking and talking to your current financial advisers and consider your options.
Important dates to know:
- October 15: Last day to make changes to current election on VBCPS online enrollment platform through Benefitfocus
- November 2019: Transition education meetings begin
- Week of November 25, 2019: New account PIN mailed from VOYA
- Week of December 1, 2019 and after 8am: VOYA account access begins using new PIN available through website or 800 number
- Week of December 16: First contributions from December 15th pay cycle to new investments in your VOYA account
- January 2019: First quarterly statement issued by VOYA (paperless)
2019 Great SouthEast ShakeOut Action Required: Oct. 17, 2019

LITERACY INFO REGARDING QUARTERLY ASSESSMENTS
The first two quarterly assessments will include items that measure word analysis and reading standards that are both formatively and summatively assessed. Teachers should refer to the quarter documents to determine the VBOs and content specifications that will be tested each quarter.
INQUIRY DESIGN MODEL - VA STUDIES
Various units in the Virginia Studies curriculum will begin to feature in-depth inquiry opportunities developed as part of the Virginia Studies Inquiry Collaborative, which took place in June and included teachers from VBCPS, Fairfax, Albemarle and Charlottesville City Public Schools, Virginia museum experts and John Lee of C3 Teachers (http://www.c3teachers.org) during the summer of 2019. These new learning events will be featured in the ‘Menu of Learning Opportunities’ within grades 4 and 5 Virginia Studies units. These inquiries are being field tested by the participating school divisions in the 2019-2020 school year and are not required parts of the curriculum. Each inquiry features an overview video of the C3 Framework developed for VBCPS teachers.
PALS SCREENING INFO
All K-2 students will be screened during the fall PALS assessment window with the exception of second grade students who reached the high benchmark score in first grade. Third graders who are new to the state of Virginia will be screened in the fall. PALS Support Staff Members will conduct screenings Grades 1-3: Sept. 16-Oct. 11 Grade K: Oct. 14-Nov. 8.
