Master Schedule for Spring Term

Our team began work this week to rebuild our Spring master schedule, based on learning model preferences from our families. We will continue to build and refine the schedule between now and mid-January.

Because we are rebuilding the master schedule, it is important to note that the students' spring-term schedules currently visible in Parent Portal are subject to change, particularly in elective courses. Students should have received an email from their counselor asking them to identify alternate courses and/or course change requests for the spring term. It is crucial students complete these forms by Tuesday, December 15th.

Students: Please check your school email for links to these forms.

Reminder: Office Hours Support is Available for All Students

As a reminder, all teachers are available every day from 2:30-3:00 to provide additional academic support/tutoring for students who need it. We intentionally built office hours into the normal school day for this specific purpose. Students who need any additional support should reach out directly to their teacher(s) to set an appointment.

Progress Reports will be Live on Thursday

Progress reports for Quarter 2 will be live on Thursday morning via Parent Portal. As a reminder, the Fall term continues after Winter Break and ends on January 22nd. For students who are struggling academically, there is still time to pull those grades up before finals! Reach out to teachers if you need additional academic support.

Oceanside Safe Routes to School Survey

Did your student walk/bike to school when in-person learning was taking place on campus and/or does your student plan to walk/bike to school when Classic learning resumes? The Oceanside Safe Routes to School program is interested in hearing from you. Let them know about any concerns and what would make you feel safer and more comfortable about having your student walk or bike to school.

Magnet Application Window for the 2021-2022 School Year

The Magnet School Application Window for all VUSD magnet schools - including Mission Vista - will open after Winter Break and close in late-February. If you or anyone you know have a student who is interested in coming to MVHS next year, please check our school website after the Winter Break for information and a link to the magnet application.

**Current students do not have to re-apply for admission next year.

MVHS Informational Webinar Series for Prospective Students

MVHS will host a series of four Zoom Webinars for prospective students and families. During these webinars, families will learn key information about MVHS and hear from a panel of students regarding everything that MVHS has to offer from the student lens.

Webinars will take place from 4:00-5:00 on the following dates:

  • January 12, 2021
  • January 26, 2021
  • February 9, 2021
  • February 23, 2021

Check the school website after Winter Break for additional information and Zoom links.

PSAT to be Offered to Juniors

MVHS will host the PSAT on January 26th to interested juniors. The PSAT will be limited to 11th graders in an effort to limit the number of students taking the exam in one space - during "normal" years, we have nearly 400 students take the PSAT in the gym. Juniors will have the opportunity as this is the year that outstanding scores could qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.

The test fee is $17, and interested students should sign up through the webstore.

Yearbooks are on Sale Now

Yearbook Flash Sale is on now through Jan 29! Early-bird discount pricing, usually available only during the first month of school, has been extended through the end of January. The yearbook staff is working hard to produce a book that captures the unique events of this history-making year so that one day, we can all look back on it and say "Hey! I survived that!"

Purchase your yearbook for $95 online by going to jostensyearbook.com. Don't delay . . . prices go up after Jan 29.

Our community is already making an impact with the opening of the COVID-19 Testing Center located at the Linda Rhoades Recreation Center. The center is now averaging over 500 members of the community getting tested every day. Our goal is to get that number up to 800 tests per day.
