"Bee" in the Know
Week of August 27, 2023
What a great first week! Our week began with a Welcome Back Pep Rally, and OPHS was the featured school on several local news channels. Staff and students loved the welcome! We implemented our new flex schedule this week, and students completed the required Code of Behavior modules during those sessions. We are excited about Flex this year as it will allow students to get extra help or retake a quiz during the school day. We enjoyed meeting you at our Back-to-School night on August 24, 2023. If you couldn’t attend, email your students’ teachers and say " hello.” We value our families as partners in providing our students with the best high school experience. Finally, our football team won the first game of the season Friday night! Yes, we are definitely off to a great start!
How to stay connected with OPHS
- OPHS website: This will be updated more frequently so that we can share the most up to date information with you.
- School Status: This is our messaging system and it allows staff to send text messages, emails, or make phone calls to families. When an email comes to your inbox with this system, the sender will be listed as School Status. A text message will include the staff member’s full name. This system allows the recipient to respond directly to a message.
School hours and After School Activities
The building opens at 7:00 am and closes each day at 4 pm. Any student not staying after school for sports must be picked up by 4 pm. Students can not wait in the building. Activity buses will start on September 12.

Bus Transportation
Bus schedules are available now in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. If you have questions about your child’s bus route, please contact transportation.
PSAT/SAT
PSAT/SAT: To increase post-secondary readiness for all students, beginning this school year, PWCS will provide students with the PSAT during ninth, 10th, and 11th grades. Additionally, PWCS will provide seniors (12th grade) with the SAT this fall and juniors (11th grade) with the SAT this spring. Students will take the tests during the school day at their school, at no charge. This also provides the added benefit to students to test in the familiar setting of their school.
PSAT/SAT for 2023-24 School Year Schedule
- PSAT (fall) – Administer on October 18 to students in grades 9-11 (digital version). Seniors work on College and Career Activities virtually.
- SAT (fall) – Administer on October 26 to seniors (paper/pencil). Seniors who do not participate will work on College and Career Activities virtually. This later date in October allows time for communication to students/families and for schools to order materials.
- SAT (spring) – Administer on March 21 to all juniors (digital version)
- The fall administration to seniors this year is for the 2023-24 school year only. Moving forward, all juniors will participate in a spring administration of the SAT.
Safety Screening Technology
The EVOLVE system has been installed but will not go into effect until mid September. To prepare ahead of the use of the technology in your school, families are encouraged to help reduce the possibility of “false alerts” on everyday items, while none are prohibited, using these guidelines will ensure a quick entry for everyone:
- Select clear and plastic school supplies over covered/concealed and metallic when applicable.
- Use three-ring binders with plastic spines/rings (non-metal).
- Utilize plastic (versus metallic) BPA-free water/coffee bottles.
- Use hard plastic eyeglass cases (versus metal).
- Students should “pack-light” and limit the number of items in bags or other equipment.
- Keep superfluous metallic items home (game consoles, beauty products, USB drives).
- Laptops and umbrellas will be passed around the technology via a staffed table.
