South Shores Elementary Launches STEAM Focus

South Shores Elementary School launched a new STEAM focus for students at the start of this school year. STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education aims to spark an interest and love for the arts and sciences in children from an early age, teaching students relevant in-demand skills that will prepare them to become innovators.

South Shores recently received a $17,000 grant from Tate & Lyle and the Community Foundation of Macon County to purchase maker-space carts for each grade level (K-6) at the school. READ MORE....

NEW! Heart of the District Recognition Program

We want to recognize employees and students who display exemplary performance and support for DPS, our students, staff and our community. We are rolling out a new recognition program called The Heart of the District.

Anyone may submit nomination, as long as the nominee is NOT a family member. These awards are not intended to be a popularity contest. Those submitting nominations are encouraged to consider the impact the nominee has on students, staff, and our district community. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee monthly, and winners will be featured in a future DOT newsletter!

To nominate someone for the Heart of the District Award, visit www.dps61.org/heartnomination
