Our First President
George Washington was the first president of the United States. He was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia. When he was seven years old, His family moved to a big farm called Ferry Farm. On the farm he rode horses, grew crops, and learned to read and write. When he was older he joined the army and became a soldier. He served bravely and became a general and led the American army in the war against the British. After the war, he and others helped the country form a new government. He was elected as the president. He was president for eight years. Washington worked hard to make America strong. Because of his hard work and leadership George Washington is often called “The Father of our Country.”
