Bobcat Bulletin

Week of September 14th

From the Desk of Mrs. Schmid

Hello Bobcat Families,

Partnership in education between school and home has always been important but is critical in current times. I hope you have found a strong willingness from our staff to partner with you in sharing in the common goal of your child's success in this unique learning format.

I recently asked staff to forward me positive notes they had received from our parents/guardians. I am overwhelmed by all of the positive notes YOU have taken time to send to our teachers, our office staff, or myself. THANK YOU---thank you for your continued support. For most of our teachers, this is one of the most challenging experiences within their career. Your words are powerful and mean more than we can express. I asked the staff from the beginning to bring their best, and as I have made my way around the virtual classrooms, I have been incredibly impressed with their commitment to do that and more. This staff truly CARES about kids, and at the end of the day, that means more than anything.

We know this format is not ideal for any student and we know there are challenges and continuous barriers to overcome. We will continue working through those and seeking ways to overcome. We look forward to the day we will have them back in person. Until then, we thank you for your continued partnership!

Brookdale is a special place because of the support and role YOU play in your child's education--THANK YOU!

Respectfully,

Keeley Schmid

Principal

Welcome Our New Bobcat!

We would like to welcome Mr. Adam Huff to the Brookdale Dream Team! Adam will be joining the team as a 5th grade teacher. Recently, we added a section at 5th grade due to increase in enrollment at that grade level. Adam comes highly recommended from the work he has completed at other elementary schools in our district. We are beyond thrilled to add Mr. Huff to the Brookdale family and are confident he will be an outstanding addition to our staff. Adam is known for his knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm as well as his strong relationships he builds with students. Adding Adam to the team is a definite win for Brookdale! Welcome, Adam!

Enhanced Zoom Security

The district is implementing enhanced security for the use of Zoom in remote learning. The increased security measure was implemented for your child's remote learning classes on Friday, September 11. We ask that you take a moment to speak with your student about the importance of being good digital citizens. Students should exhibit the same good behavior while participating in an online classroom as when in school with their classmates and teacher. Students, parents and guardians do not have permission to record remote learning educational activities or services. Violations will result in consequences, which may include removal of the student’s access to remote learning activities and/or discipline for student misconduct. Please note that teachers have the option to record a Zoom session and make it available to students in Google Classroom for the purpose of providing instructional support material to students. After 14 days, any video posted in Google Classroom will be automatically removed.

More information on the district’s safety practices related to Zoom is on the district’s website at http://www.ipsd.org/news.aspx?id=108247

Curriculum Night: Tuesday

Curriculum Night will be conducted virtually this year. Your child's teacher will send out a link of the curriculum night presentation for you to view at your convenience this coming Tuesday, September 15th at 6:00pm. Included will also be a video from the office and a short survey for you to complete.

Technology Help

We want to support you! Please call our office if you are having any technical problems, and we can walk you through a solution. Our first priority is getting our students connected to remote learning. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Fiala, Ms. Minch, Mrs. Prifti, and Mrs. Fursteanu for their tireless work in supporting our families.

Brookdale in the Media!

The chiming of the Brookdale bell filled the sky on the first day of school this year! It was truly a magical morning we will never forget; the kick-off to the 2020-2021 school year! Although we missed not having our students coming to us, we made the best of it given the circumstances. We were so incredibly honored to have Dr. Talley with us to start the school year as he begins his new journey in District 204. We also had the opportunity to honor the late Chuck Seidel, principal at Brookdale for 17 years, who was instrumental in the installation of the bell at Brookdale.

Check out some clips of the kick-off:

Have you heard the bell ring each morning? There have been smiling staff members behind the rings! Here are a few of those moments captured below!

Stay Connected

There are all different ways to get involved in your child's educational experience! Be sure to join Brookdale's PTA, which is a wonderful way to participate in the fun of your child's educational experience!

Check out who is on the Brookdale Dream Team this year; we have some new faces and student teachers who have chosen Brookdale as their place of their final schooling. Be sure to also check out a new section we added of Staff Photos and put a face to a name. We will continue adding photos and updates as they occur.
