Sierra Family Newsletter April 8, 2022

Message from Principal Westberg

Online Auction Closes Sunday at 5:00 pm!

Thank you to all the families who were able to attend the school auction and to the incredible auction committee leads, Irina Soares and Lakshmi Pillai, and their support team for the incredible work that went into the event! The online auction is now open until Sunday night at 5:00! It’s your last chance to get your shark the highly sought-after teacher experiences. You will also see items that fall under our "Fund a Need" category - items that we would LOVE to enhance our program - in our library, kindergarten, broadcasting program, PE, various grade levels, and more! Click here to check out the online BUY IT NOW auction items!

Parking Lot Volunteers Needed

We want to improve safety and traffic conditions on Camborne through returning to our use of the "circling lane" in our K-2 drop-off lot at the kindergarten playground. Here are our parking lot procedures describing how that works. We could double the speed of drop-off and pick-up if we can do this, but we need your help! We do not have enough staff to position two people (one at the driveway to direct traffic and one at the inner loop to assist students entering/exiting there). So, I am looking for people to volunteer on a consistent basis in those two locations at least one shift a week from 7:35-7:50 and 2:10-2:25, Monday - Friday. If you are interested, please send me an email with the day(s) and time(s) you are available. Training will be provided.

Spring Break + Monday April 18th Student Day Off

Remember, no school April 11-18, so we will see you back at Sierra on Tuesday the 19th! Have a wonderful break!

Lost & Found

Our lost & found is growing rapidly! Does anything belong to you?

Come pick it up before or after school in the multipurpose room.

Please help us care for our environment by reducing and reusing! Our Inquiry Island and VAPA spaces are incredible spaces for students to collaborate and construct their learning. In recognition of Earth Day and every day, please think of us before you trash. Your trash can be our students' treasures. We would especially like shoeboxes with lids, toilet paper or paper towel tubes, and cardboard or tagboard cut down to manageable sizes (i.e. 9x12, 11x17). Students also like cardboard packing materials in different or unusual shapes (circles, curved shapes, etc.). Fabric, buttons, ribbon scraps, scrapbook paper, and wallpaper are also a hit.

If you're not sure if we can use it then please email our VAPA teacher, Lisa Johnson at

Thank you!

Donations Needed

We are in need of 4-6oz Dixie cup-style cups for our sharks! When they get thirsty and have forgotten their water bottles, these come in handy! You can drop them off at the front office.

Thank you all for your help and generous donations, as always!

Are you cleared to volunteer or chaperone a field trip?

To ensure compliance with RUSD and the state of California's volunteer policies, parents who wish to volunteer on campus during the school day must have:

RUSD Policy:

  • Fingerprinting completed for RUSD specifically. Prior fingerprinting done for any agency or organization other than RUSD will not be accepted. Fingerprinting takes approximately 72 hours to clear.
  • Current Tuberculosis Test (TB). TB tests expire every 4 years and must be renewed in order to volunteer. TB Tests take approximately 48-72 hours for results and results must be brought to the office.

State of California Policy:

  • Vaccination status or proof of a current negative COVID test uploaded to the link included in the email from Informed K12. If you have not received this email, please let the office know. Details about this are included in the Informed K12 email.
