Treaty of versailles
World War 1 was officially over on June 28, 1919 when the Treaty of Versailles was signed.
What is the Treaty of Versailles?
The Treaty of Versailles is a peace treaty that was signed at the end of the war. On November 11, 1918 the Germans requested an armistice. An armistice is when both sides agree to stop fighting. The Germans requested an armistice because they were running out of food and supplies.
After the War
Lots of new independent countries were made: Poland, Finland, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. Russia became the Soviet Union and the Ottoman Empire became Turkey. The Germans were forced to give Alsace-Lorraine to France and also give them 132 billion marks (442 billion dollars US). After the war something called the League of Nations was formed. It was used for global peace and health.
