Week At A Glance

Student thoughts about what they want teachers to know...
School, a corrupt environment filled with all sorts of pubescent adolescents, can be a living nightmare for some kids. Drama, sarcastic teachers, excessive amounts of homework, being judged, grades, balancing after-school
activities, and finding yourself are just a few of the challenges of being this age. All of this is A LOT to handle.

HSE Teaching and Learning
Rigor is often referenced as a necessity in education, but it is also one of those words that is hard to define. As Dr. Bourff points out in this week’s entry, one dictionary definition is certainly not what we want to see at HSE.
Give it a shot yourself. Try to describe what rigor looks like in a classroom, and you may end up with an Alan Greenspan moment.
So what do we want when we talk about Rigor? This week Dr. Bourff starts us off on the quest to answer that question. A few more of us join in to help round out the picture, which we hope is a good approach when it comes to wrapping our heads around this elusive topic.

Each school and each teacher needs to come to an understanding of Rigor and how students experience it in the classroom. Our hope is this week’s entry helps you along that journey.
Have a great week, HSE.
