FRONTIER EAGLE NEWS
Mid-August 2021
A Note from the FMS Administrative Team
The excitement is growing for the start of the 2021-2022 academic year! We hope that all of you will be able to join us today or on Monday, August 23 for our "Walkabout" Days. Please see below for additional information regarding this opportunity for students and families to tour the building prior to the first day of school.
For our students and families who are unable to attend, and even for those who are, we invite you to view our "Welcome to FMS" presentation. The slides contain information regarding the ways in which to interpret student schedules, building maps, answers to frequently asked questions, and video clips of important areas within the building.
As the first day of school quickly approaches, we know there are many questions regarding the safety of our staff and students. For further information, we invite you to visit the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services page on the Wentzville School District website.
We look forward to welcoming our eagles to FMS next week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Laura Rowe, Principal
Mr. Kevin Kuehl, Assistant Principal (7th Grade)
Mr. Stan Johnson, Assistant Principal (8th Grade)
"Walkabout" Days at FMS - Tuesday, August 17 and Monday, August 23
We are delighted to announce that we will now be able to open our doors prior to the first day of school to allow students the opportunity to walk the building and become familiarized with the location of their classrooms. This was an opportunity we did not think we would be able to provide, due to construction that has been occurring both inside and outside of our building; however, we are thrilled that this has been made possible for our FMS Eagles!
Frontier Middle School’s doors will be open during the following times:
Tuesday, August 17 from 3:30-6:30 PM
Monday, August 23 from 7:30-11:00 AM
We encourage families to check the Parent and Student Portals beginning on Friday, August 13 to access class schedules. Please take a screenshot or print a hard copy of the schedule prior to visiting Frontier Middle School. Maps of the building will be available in the front foyer, and signage will be posted.
Upon visiting Frontier Middle School, families are welcomed and encouraged to walk through students’ schedules. Most classrooms will be locked, as the times during which our doors will be open are outside of teacher work hours. With that said, however, teachers will be looking forward to meeting families during Open House, which will be held on Thursday, September 9 from 5:30-6:15 for Grade 7 and from 6:15-7:00 for Grade 8.
If you are unable to attend either of these times, please know that we will have signage posted and a multitude of staff members on hand during the first day of school to help your student locate his/her classrooms. Hard copies of schedules will also be available to all students in their first hour class. We are committed to ensuring that all of our students feel comfortable upon entering our doors, no matter their level of familiarity with the physical building.
*Please also note that lockers will not be assigned again this year, as students are permitted to carry book bags throughout the day. Because we are 1:1 with Chromebooks, students have few textbooks and supplies to store and carry each day.
Updated Proof of Residency Needed
Starting with the 2021-2022 school year, all WSD schools will ask every current family to provide updated proof of residency to the school that serves the oldest child in the family. The documents will be collected from August 1 through October 31. A list of the approved documents can be accessed here. New enrollments will be required to provide full proof of residency documentation.
Homeowners:
Provide current utility bill (water, sewer, electric, gas) within the last 30 days with matching mailing address and service address.
Leases:
Provide current lease with all occupant names and utility bill (water, sewer, electric, gas) within the last 30 days. Utility bill mailing address and service address must match. If a lease transitions to month-to-month then provide the updated addendum. If it is a mobile home trailer and pad, then the lease for both should match. Leases should include all pages of the lease.
Residing with Someone Else:
Owner/Lessee should provide a lease, ALTA Settlement Statement, or Real Estate Tax Statement. Owner/Lessee should also provide a utility bill, valid photo ID, and notarized letter.
Parent/Guardian residing with someone else should provide a photo ID and Affidavit of Residency Form. Parent/Guardian residing with someone else should also provide official mail from a federal/state agency, current bank statement/loan statement, or utility bill.
Guardianship:
All guardianship situations and documentation will need to be updated this year and annually.
If you have questions, please contact FMS's registrar, Mrs. Debbie Sethaler at residency.frontierms@wsdr4.org or 636.625.1026 ext. 33241.
PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association)
All parents are encouraged to follow the FMS PTSA Facebook Page and Twitter (@fms_ptsa) for upcoming events throughout the year!
School Supplies and Chromebooks
Again this year, middle school students will be allowed to carry book bags to and from their classes. We will not be issuing lockers. With students carrying book bags, they will be able to carry needed supplies with them, much like students in our WSD high schools.
The supply list is available here.
As a reminder, all 7th and 8th graders in the WSD will have a Chromebook issued to him/her. All of our returning 8th graders should have their Chromebook from last year. Our 7th graders and students new to SMS who will be attending in person will receive their Chromebook from their teachers during the first week of school.
The district is offering an insurance program for your student's Chromebook. The cost to participate in this program is $20* annually. Participation is optional. Coverage takes effect once payment is received, and the device is issued to your child. It is not retroactive. Buying into the program provides coverage only during the current school year, so from the time payment is received through the end of the school year which is June 30. The program fee is non-refundable and does not transfer to the next school year if the insurance is not used.
*Please note the insurance fee to participate is $20, as SISK12 / Student360 is reflecting an inaccurate fee of $10.
Responsible User Policy (RUP)
Please note that the Responsible Use Policy (RUP) must be signed before your child(ren) can log into district technology resources. The RUP can be signed online through the Tyler SISK12 Student360 website. Please complete the required form(s) before the start of the school, so that your child(ren)’s access is not disabled.
The Tyler SISK12 Student360 website can be accessed from the homepage on the district website.
Please be advised that district technology is only to be used for educational purposes and at the direction of WSD staff. Violations of this policy can result in technology suspensions and/or disciplinary consequences.
