Zoo Field Trip
We will board the buses at 9:00 and return around 2:00.
Lunch will be provided at the zoo.
There is no need to send money, as there will not be time to stop by the gift shop.
Most of the time will be spent inside. However, depending on the weather, we may take a walk outside. Coats, hats, mittens, and comfortable walking shoes or boots should be worn.

Specialist
The students will be in art until March 10.
Geometric Art
The math students created their own "Mondian" paintings during our geometry unit. They made quadrilaterals by placing parallel and perpendicular lines on their paper. As an assessment, they counted the number of quadrilaterals, parallel and intersecting lines, and right angles. What a fun way to learn math!
Friendship Month
As part of friendship month, we wove a class web from yarn. The web was created by tossing a ball of yarn from classmate to classmate. The receiving person wrapped the cord a few times around her/his wrist and tossed it on. Once everybody received the yarn, the web was complete. We cut and tied the yarn around our wrists. The bracelets symbolize unity and the friendship we have for one another in the class.
We are spending this month noticing 'Random Acts of Kindness" among our classmates.

Animal Research Project
The students have chosen wild animals to research. Initial information was sent home about the project last week. We are asking that you help your child find some books at the public library that they can use in their research. For this project think: "The simpler, the better!" Even if it is text that your child can read with ease, it will be perfect for this introduction to research. I went through different types of non-fiction texts with the children to give them an idea of the types of text to look for. We will also teach them to do safe internet searches on kid friendly sites as part of their process.
The students will be researching and writing about the habitats, behaviors, anatomy, adaptations, and diet of their animal.
In addition, they will be asked to make a 3-D model of their animal at home. More information will be sent home about that soon! The models will be due on April 12. You will all be invited to the wonderful "Walk on the Wild Side" gallery walk on April 21 to see the wonderful creations!
