Principally Speaking

The week went well at DCMS! We love our students! I had an especially great Thursday, as I got to be the substitute teacher in Mrs. Hayse's English class for the day. I enjoyed myself immensely. We have such wonderful kids in Danville. Thank you, parents, for allowing us to serve your students!

Have a wonderful weekend!

So, please mark your calendars and before you head off to bed Saturday evening, move your clocks forward one hour. It means less sleep for one night, but you will be on time Sunday and for the days that lie ahead.

How Can Parents Help Us with Attendance?

When your child is sick

  • Only let your child stay home if he/she is truly sick. Sometimes complaints of a headache or stomach ache might be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home. Contact the school counselor for support if you think this might be happening.
  • The Sick Day Guidelines for Families may be helpful if you are not sure if you should keep your child at home due to illness. See the guideline using the link below.

Appointments and vacations

  • Make every effort to schedule doctor, dentist, and other appointments after school hours.
  • If your child must be out of school for an appointment, get him/her back to school for at least part of the school day.
  • Plan vacations when school is not in session.

Spring Pictures

Spring Pictures will be taken on March 19th. This is the picture cycle in which students can bring in props like stuffed animals, helmets, favorite uniforms, etc.

National School Breakfast Week

Parents, March 4th-8th is National School Breakfast Week. This week was started in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the school breakfast program. Danville schools offer breakfast at all grade levels. At our elementary schools, the students take a grab and go breakfast from the cafeteria and then eat in the classrooms. This allows the students more time to finish eating without rushing. At the middle and high school, there are up to 10 different entrees to choose from, including different breakfast sandwiches, cereals, breakfast bars, and french toast. All of our items are whole grain rich and cereals are reduced sugar. Breakfast prices are $1.50 or $.40 for reduced. Meals come with an entree, fruit, juice, and milk. To celebrate National School Breakfast Week, new breakfast entrees will be featured throughout the week.

The information will also be available on our district social media pages (Facebook and Twitter @DCSCWarriors), on our district website (www.danville.k12.in.us), and on the local television news stations and their websites.

If you do not receive a phone call or text in the event of a cancellation or delay, please take a moment to check your communication settings on your Infinite Campus parent portal.
